ROMANCE DAWN -

It is the Great Pirate Age. Countless pirates have raised their flags and gone to battle to find the legendary pirate king Gold Roger's hidden treasure, "One Piece". This story is a young boy who wishes to become a pirate. His name is Luffy. Luffy greatly admires Shanks, the leader of a gang of pirates staying in his town, but one day, he accidentally eats their spoil of battle, a "Devil Fruit". The fruit's effect made it so that Luffy could never swim his entire life, but his body obtained the mysterious power to move like it was rubber! However, immediately after that, he angered Shanks' enemies, the bandits, and was tossed into the water in the middle of the sea. As he was drowning, a monster attacked Luffy, but in a split-second, Shanks was there to save him! At the expense of one arm... 10 years later, using Shanks' straw hat as his trademark, Luffy set out for sea. His great journey to become a pirate had begun.
Searching for companions, the exultant Luffy has set off towards the "Grand Line" with his first crewmate, "Pirate Hunter Zoro". But, along the way, they became involved in a fight between the Buggy Pirate Crew and Nami, the Pirate Thief. Luffy, who realizes that Nami has excellent navigation skills and Buggy holds a map to the Grand Line, decides to face off against the Buggy Crew! After defeating the Buggy Crew's second-in-command and chief of staff, he and Zoro finally face off against Buggy! But Buggy also has Devil Fruit powers, (CHOP-CHOP FRUIT) and he seems to have known Shanks. Luffy at first is unable to beat Buggy due to his ability to split his body, but with the aid of Nami, Buggy is finally defeated and Nami agrees to join the crew.

The Kuro saga-

..Having found and recruited Zoro and Nami in his travels, Luffy stops at a village to ask for rations and a more powerful ship. They meet a proud LIAR, Usopp, he always stirs up the village by telling lies, but he is a kind-hearted youngster who cheers up the sickly Kaya, the wealthiest woman in the village, Luffy decides to ask her for a ship. But the butler Clahadour forces them away, and they sadly abandon their hopes.
Luffy and Usopp go talk at the coast after being chased out of the mansion, when they spy the butler with a suspicious-looking man! They overhear that Clahadour is actually the infamous pirate "Captain Kuro", and is undertaking a plot to assassinate Kaya, after he receives all her inheritance. Now the two have to find some way to stop the plan from being carried out. Luffy and company, knowing Usopp's feelings for his village, decide to fight the Kuro Neko Pirate Crew, which Kuro leads! They have a violent battle at the lone hill road that leads into the village!, the crew defeats Kuro in a violent battle and save Kaya, as a reward for saving her, the crew receive their own ship, the Going Merry. Usopp decides to leave his village and join Luffy1s crew on the high seas, with their new companion, Luffy and friends head off next in search of a sea cook.

The Don Krieg saga-

The 3Straw-hat2 crew learn about a "Sea Restaurant" from Yosaku and Johnny, two of Zoro1s former allies, and head north. But before they can stop there, Luffy gets himself in trouble once again and finds himself working for the restaurant as a ragboy, there he meets the perfect sea cook for his crew, the "assistant head chef Sanji".
Luffy decides he likes Sanji and entreats him to join his pirate crew. Then, Don Krieg, the head of the five thousand man Pirate Fleet, appears. Sanji's warm and nurturing food heals his wounded body back to full health. But, when Krieg appears a second time, he returns the favor by taking over the ship! The stage is set for a grand battle on the sea restaurant. At that time, the man who is claimed to be the strongest swordsman in the world, "Mihawk the Hawk-Eyed", appears with an earth-shaking noise. Zoro, who intends to be the world's strongest, challenges him to a fight, but is crushed. He then makes an oath to Luffy that he will never lose again. After Mihawk leaves, the fight with the Krieg Crew continues. Sanji holds fast to protect the ship. But his situation turns desperate when Sanji1s close friend, Zeff is taken hostage.
What is Sanji's real motivation for protecting the ship?! 9 years ago, Sanji the cook's apprentice and Zeff the pirate were stranded on the top of a huge rock by a storm!! In order to keep Sanji alive, Zeff gave him what little rations they had, and ate his own leg. The reason Zeff saved him was because they both have the same dream. The vicious Krieg turns on his faithful subject Gin, who cannot kill Sanji, and shoots off the poison gas bomb, "M-H-5"!!.
.The end of the heated battle consists of Luffy and Krieg in a showdown. Strong-willed and unafraid of death, Luffy pitches headfirst into the fight, achieves victory with a mighty attack, and then collapses. When Luffy awakes from his recovery, he asks Sanji to join his crew once again, but for some reason, he will not. However, the cooks who have been with Zeff since the beginning put on an act in order to get Sanji to leave. Warm-hearted?! Struck by his friends' actions, Sanji resolves to go with Luffy!! It is the birth of the fourth companion.

The Arlong saga-

Just at the moment they begin to think about Grand Line, Nami goes missing. Zoro and Usopp go off one step ahead to catch Nami, and arrive at a town ruled by fishmen, Arlong Park. There, they are shocked when they learn Nami's true identity. The seal of the Arlong Pirate Crew, printed on her arm. Unaware of all this, Luffy and Sanji make their way to Arlong Park. when they arrive at the island and they will not listen to these revelations. However, when Nami's sister Nojiko tells them about how their beloved foster-mother Belmeil was killed by Arlong, they understand the reason why Nami hates pirates so much. She was saving up money to save her village. Nami, who has been continuing on her lonely fight, cries to Luffy from the bottom of her heart, "Help me2. Hearing the cry from Nami's heart, Luffy goes to confront Arlong, but gets thrown in the ocean! Luffy's companions left on shore must fight off Arlong's underlings in a grand battle. Zoro of the three sword-style school must face off against Hatchan of the six sword-style school.
Luffy is rescued, and the rest is up to he and Arlong. Luffy jumps into battle with Arlong to bring laughter back to Nami's heart. With one furious blow, he destroys all of Arlong Park, and brings laughter to Nami and the rest of Kokoyashi Village.

Now begins the long Crocodile saga, I will break the saga up into 3 arcs, but remember these are all part of the Crocodile saga.

1.---Whiskey Peak arc

.. With his second companion, Nami, Luffy sets sail. On the ship, Luffy cannot hide his joy at being on the "Wanted" lists worldwide (he1s worth 30,000,000 berries now). Then they set off for Loguetown, a place close to the Grand Line and where the pirate king Gold Roger was executed. Luffy goes to see the execution platform, climbs it, and takes in a view that the pirate king himself saw. That's when Buggy the Clown and Iron Mace Alvida, who now has a gorgeous body, show up! They capture Luffy on top of the platform, and at the moment they are about to perform a public execution, there is a flash of lightning, and Luffy is saved. At the moment he was going to die, Luffy smiled. Exactly the same way the pirate king Gold Roger did.The legend has begun!!
Luffy and friends climb a mountain (?!) and immediately enter the "Grand Line". But right before them is a giant whale, and they are swallowed, down into his stomach. Two mysterious people sneak themselves into the whale's stomach so they can kill it! Luffy easily captures the two, and asks the man of the house (?), Crocus, why the whale is waiting at this spot. Once he understands the situation, Luffy jumps into battle with the whale to give it a new sense of purpose. Then he promises to come back once more. Without a clear destination, Luffy and company decide on Whiskey Peak, the home town of the two mysterious people. When they arrive, they all collapse dead-drunk after a wild party. As the night advances, the atmosphere turns fishy. Yes, this is actually a lair of bounty hunters, part of the criminal syndicate called Baroque Works!! Having discovered this truth, Zoro wades into a bloody battle single-handed against the evil villagers. Luffy awakes to find the villagers all been killed by Zoro, not knowing the truth, Luffy attacks Zoro, thinking his best friend has gone insane, the two battle it out to a stalemate and all is resolve before these two cause any real damage. :-)

Meanwhile with Baroque Works, there are "traitors" in their midst, who have searched and discovered the identity of the B.W. Boss. The traitors are missing Alabastan princess Vivi (Miss Wednesday) and captain of the guard, Igaram (Mr. 8). The Baroque Works Officer Agents, Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine, are sent to destroy the two. Just as Vivi is about to be captured by the overwhelmingly powerful agents, Zoro steps in to save her, acting on Nami's order after she made a secret agreement with Igaram.
Then, Luffy and crew get on the Baroque Works hitlist after Vivi tells them about their real motive, the "Takeover of the Kingdom of Alabasta", the political mastermind and head of Baroque Works Mr.0, Sir. Crocodile, one of the Seven Deadly Seas!!
The crew hopes to go straight to Alabasta to get Vivi home, but the first island they land on appears to be inhabited by giants?!.The crew has arrive at the island Little Garden, home to giants. A 100-year fight of "pride" has been taking place there. But the Baroque Works soil this pride!! The Baroque Works lays many dirty traps to capture Zoro and a few others. An angry Luffy fights Mr. 3 and achieves a spectacular victory!! At the same time, Sanji relaxes and takes a phone call from Mr. 0..?!. The Takeover of Alabasta plan will start soon, and they set out at full speed, but Nami falls under a dangerously high fever.

2.-- The Drum arc-

In order to find a doctor to take care of Nami, Luffy and crew arrive at the snow-covered Drum Island. Pirates once attacked this country, and the king left the island with all the doctors. There was only one doctor left on the island, one that people called a "witch". Luffy and Sanji set out with Nami for the castle on top of the highest mountain on the island, where this "witch" lives, but come face to face with an avalanche. The two escape and enter the castle, inside, they find a blue-nosed reindeer, Chopper. Luffy, fascinated with his ability to speak and walk on two legs, invites him to join the crew, but Chopper's heart bears large scars.
6 years ago, Chopper, who had been used to everyone treating him like a monster, was delighted to meet his first friend, the quack Dr. Hiruluk, who gave him his name and called him his son. Hiruluk loved his home country dearly, and tried to save it from the corrupt rule of the king, Wapol. However, he fell into a trap set by Wapol, and lost his life!! Chopper was shocked and grieved for his friend, but inherits Hiruluk's will and decided to become a doctor.

Just then the once-king Wapol comes back to the island. When he sees the pirate flag Luffy and friends put over his castle, marking Hiruluk's grave, Wapol is furious! and orders his men, Chess and Kuromarimo (who has Electric powers- Baku-Baku fruit) to take it down. Luffy and Chopper go to protect the flag and Dr. Hiruluk1s memory. Chopper crushes the combined power of Wapol1s men Chess and Kuromarimo, and Luffy blows Wapol into the sky far, far away. Moved by his pirate's pride and Luffy's zeal, Chopper decides to leave with them to be a pirate, and says goodbye to his teacher. Pink snow, Hiruluk's own cheery blossom trees leaves, fell down on Drum Island that night, celebrating the memory of one man and marking the birth of a new country.(Cherry blossom trees in a snow?!?-- only in mangas)

3.-- Alabasta Arc-

Luffy and crew are just about to land at the kingdom of Alabasta, They save a strange thing (I don1t consider it a person) Mr.2 Bon Clay, the Okama, who thanks to the mane-mane fruit has the ability to copy anyone he meets, after a really weird afternoon, the crew bids farewell to their new friend, unable till after their goodbyes that they1re are suppose to be enemies, 2 Bon Clay is really Mr.2 of the Baroque Works. Meanwhile inside the country, Mr. 0 shows up immediately and begins his plan for the "Takeover of Alabasta"!! As the 3Straw-hat2 crew prepare for the adventure ahead in the port town of Nanohana, they encounter the Marine troop commanded by Captain Smoker and sergeant major Tashigi, Luffy is unable to hurt smoker who if you can1t guess can turn into a gas form, the run for their lives, straight out of town. They are aided in their escape by Portogas D. Ace, Luffy older brother and weilder of the power of fire (Mera-Mera Fruit), after a short- and I do mean short family reunion, the crew decides their next move.
Vivi, who wishes to end the rebellion before all else, heads the crew towards the Rebel headquarters, Yuba. At the dried-up town of Erumalu, Vivi reveals the source of Alabasta's unrest. Crocodile's terrible plan to take over Alabasta by setting the people and the king at each others' throats using Dance Powder, a dust that creates artificial rain! Crossing the harsh, hot desert, they arrive at Yuba. But there is only one old man there, born of the sand. When he speaks to the shocked crew, it turns out that he is Toto, the father of Kohza, the leader of the Rebellion and a childhood friend of Vivi's!! Now Luffy understands the state of the nation and the relationship between Vivi and the Rebels. As his various thoughts congeal together, Luffy comes up with a firm conclusion. In order to stop the rebellion, first and foremost, Crocodile must be destroyed. Next, they will move to Rainbase, where they will find him.
.The Army sends troops to Rainbase, to cut off the root of evil, but on the other hand, Mr. 2 fools the Rebellion, and sends them towards Alubarna. Luffy heads back to Alubarna with not a second to lose, but Crocodile appears, and the two begin to fight!!
Luffy, unable to hurt Crocodile due to his Suna Suna Fruit powers, is finally defeated, (Yes Luffy Lost!). As the battle between the Army and the Rebellion approaches in Alubarna, Vivi and the others fool Mr. 1 and the other Number Agents, to stop the rebellion. But it does not stop, and the two sides meet in battle.
Vivi still tries to stop them. Zoro and the others, moved by the love for her country, face off against their toughest opponents yet. Meanwhile a plan to blow up the two armies at the square is set in motion by the Baroque Works, as the time limit for the explosion in the palace square nears, Luffy finally comes back to Crocodile again!! Hard-pressed to overcome Crocodile's terrible powers, Luffy is maimed, and defeated.( 2 to zero)
Usopp and Chopper face off against the Mr. 4 pair, Sanji takes on Mr. 2 Bon Clay, while Zoro and Nami combat the Mr. 1 pair!!
As Vivi uses her wits to convince her countrymen to destroy the palace in order to stop the rebellion, Crocodile appears once more. He wants "Pluton", the world's most terrible weapon, spelled out in the "Poneglyph". Is there any way to stop his ambitions ?. Luffy is tattered and injured from his battle with Crocodile. But his strong bonds to his crewmates propels Luffy's body back into action, as the violence and intensity in Alabasta comes to a standstill!!..The Royal and Rebel armies, spurred on by the Baroque Works, clash in the capital city of Alubarna. Feeling Vivi's heartfelt wishes to stop both groups from fighting, Zoro and the others face off against the BW Officer Agents. They are all fierce, close battles, but ultimately all are victorious. About this time, Vivi meets Crocodile at the Royal Palace and learns of the true meaning of the rebellion, and a huge bombing to happen in the Palace Square. There's no way to stop the war. At the moment she is assaulted by despair and grief, the one hope they have to stop the rebellion shows up: Luffy!! Luffy, and their other friends, could all her the cries from her heart. Vivi decides to stop the bombing, and Luffy to defeat Crocodile.
Defeated already not once, but twice, Luffy prepares himself for this third and final battle to the death!! On the other hand, Vivi and the others sense something fishy about the clock tower, the bomb is in the clock tower, Vivi and the crew begin the dangerous assault on the twoer which is guarded by the Sharpshooter pair of B.W, Mr. 7 and miss Father day. Thanks to everyone1s efforts Vivi make it to the top and deafeats the B.W. pair in time to cut the fuse of the bomb.
The cheers are cut short though, as it appears the bomb had a back-up timer incase of being stop too soon, Vivi has failed and the Kingdom and all of the crew is doomed, untill Pell, the guardian spirit of the kingdom arrives and sacrifices his life in order to save the kingdom, by flying the bomb into orbit, saving all, but dying himself. Meanwhile, the battle between Luffy and Crocodile is coming to a close, dazed by a poison Croc injected into him. Luffy is barely able to stand, pushed on by the strong bonds to his friends and knowing that if he doesn1t beat Crocodile,he1ll never be Pirate King. The ragged and injured Luffy summons a powerful assualt, The GUM-GUM STORM and finally defeats Crocodile and brings peace back to Alabasta.

The Marines receive news of how the 3Straw-Hat2 crew save Alabasta and decide to quickly take credit for it before the truth is reveal. Though, Captain Smoker is furious that the government will label him as the man who took down Crocodile and not Luffy, (looks like Smoker isn1t all bad)tells the govermnet to eat shit!. Luffy and company spent a week secretly hiding in the palace, healing from their wounds. When the news breaks, since Luffy defeated Crocodile, one of the seven seas,he is now more wanted than ever, (He1s worth 100,000,000 berries now!). Since it1s no longer wise for the kingdom to harbor such wanted criminals, Luffy and his crew must leave. Princess Vivi is tore between staying to rule her people or coming on the seas with her friends. The Marines decide to begin their pursuit once more on The 3Straw-Hat2 Crew, and Luffy and company must say goodbye to Vivi, who decided to stay to help her kingdom. It was a sorrowful farewell, but the mark of friendship on their arms would forever bind them together...

(Hell I miss Vivi, she is the only one I feel Luffy actually had a chance with, see vol.23, she has a crush on luffy as anyone would notice, which made it even harder for her to say goodbye.)
