Flick the Ball Python
Hello all! I made this page for my beautiful Ball Python buddy, Flick. Flick is about a year old and 2 1/2 feet long. We're not really sure whether he is a he or a she! Any info or tips for ball pythons would be greatly appreciated.
Let me tell you a little about Flick's environment. My boyfriend is a crafty fella, and Flick's home is proof of this. He lives in a combination entertainment stand/floor model televesion casing. So his home basically has two rooms, if you will. In the main part (the entertainment stand) Flick has a little swimming pool (a Rubbermaid tub with an air hose connected to a pump to keep the water fresh), he has a set of wooden dowels that looks like a set of monkey bars with some fake plants hanging from the monkey bars to climb on. He also has his heating pad in case he gets chilly, and a shoe box with an attached lid for him to hide in (there's a door cut out for him to go in and out). In his "new room" (the floor model tv), Flick has another hidey spot. We put about 5 large (sterilized) rocks space out in there and placed a sheet of cardboard over those. He also has his climbing stick in that part. Needless to say Flick is spoiled!
As for feeding, we breed mice for his food and he eats live. He had a little accident with a mouse when he was small, but he learned quickly that you grab and squeeze, not stay and stare. Anyone who has any info on feeding rats to Ball Pythons, that would be great. I have heard that the teeth on rats are much larger and sharper than mice and that Flick could very easily get hurt if we feed him live rats. I'd like to stick to mice, but my boyfriend wants him big. Men!!
