Romans Created Christianity! (Flavian Hypothesis)

Hello, this may be something new to many people... to consider that Romans were the actual authors of the New Testament texts and creators of Christianity! However, there is more and more research that shows this to be the case.

This study has been gone by several names or terms over the years... sometimes being called the 'Piso Theory', and other things because of the concepts and theories that go along with it. But more recently, this has been referred to as the 'Flavian Hypothesis'.

Below is a list of primary authors & books on the subject of the Romans creating Christianity. This will be of some help to those who wish to research this subject for themselves:

Bruno Bauer. Although Bruno Bauer had written extensively on the subject of the authorship of the New Testament texts, his most well-known and perhaps most developed is titled ‘Christ and the Caesars’ (as ‘Christus und die Caeseren’, 1877, Berlin). It is available in many of the larger colleges and universities around the world in the original German. There is an English translation (translated by Frank E. Schacht, Ed. D.) available from: Charleston House Publishing, Alexander Davidonis, James Island, P.O. Box 12814, Charleston, SC 29422. Price: $54.

James Ballantyne Hannay. Hannay, a scholar at Oxford, wrote a series of articles and pamphlets on the subject of the Roman authorship of the New Testament. However, in all of his work, I could find no reference to Bruno Bauer and his work in this area. Nor, does there appear to be any link between the work of these two scholars. Quite interesting considering the rather unique subject matter. Hannay’s work culminated in a book titled ‘The Rise, Decline, and Fall of the Roman Religion’, which was published postumously in 1925. Health Research Books has a website (www.healthresearchbooks.com/index.htm).
Spiral bound copies of this book may be obtained from: Health Research Books, P.O. Box 850, Pomeroy, WA 99347. Price: $19.

Abelard Reuchlin. It was Reuchlin who first identified the actual names of the Roman authors of the New Testament and made his findings public for the first time in 1979 in a work entitled ‘The True Authorship of the New Testament’. It enjoyed a second printing in 1986. And it is considered to be volume I in a series of books which he has since written on the subject. Below is a list of titles that are currently available.

‘The True Authorship of the New Testament’ (Vol. I in the series). Price: $5.

‘The Pisos’ Further Writings’ (in 2 Volumes). Price: $25.

‘How Christianity Grew During 96-217 To Near Power In Rome’. Price: $15.

‘From Ulpian to Constantine’. Price: $23.

Any or all of these may be ordered directly from:

The Abelard Reuchlin Foundation
P.O. Box 5652, Kent, WA 98064

Roman Piso. This author has done extensive research in this area and has written many articles on this and related subjects for many years. Books that are currently available from this author are:

‘The Synthesis of Christianity’. Price: $15.

‘PISO CHRIST!’. Price: $20.

‘Pliny: Words & Phrases’ (in 2 Volumes). Price of each volume, $20.

These may be ordered from: FRC, P.O. Box 103, Altoona, WI 54720

Joseph Atwill. Joseph Atwill appears to have come to the conclusion that the Romans were responsible for the creation of the Christian texts independently of the work of either Abelard Reuchlin or Roman Piso. He found out about the work of these authors only after having written his book ‘The Roman Origin of Christianity’. He claims that he was inspired by the work of Robert Eisenman. His book can be ordered from: Joseph Atwill, P.O. Box 281, 1187 Coast Village Road, Montecito, CA 93108. Price: $20.

This list of books are those which are primary to the study of this subject. There are sure to be more as time goes on. But these should be considered a foundation for information that we now have regarding the Roman creation of Christianity. Also, there are several articles and discussions online that will be helpful to anyone researching this. Here are some links:
