The FISCHER ANGUS QUARTER HORSE ranch is located on a picturesque 130 acres, in the “Land Amongst The Lakes “ area, thirty minutes east of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
I raise purebred Angus cattle; stand an AQHA stallion, board horses, consult, and sell government inspected Angus beef.
The cowherd size is usually 25 black and 5 red Angus cows. They are eye appealing, moderate to larger framed, easy fleshing, with quiet temperaments, sound feet, and good udders.
My objective is to raise, high performance Angus seed stock for commercial and purebred breeders alike. To accomplish this, I service the cows, to the best AI bulls available. First off, I select bulls for eye appeal and structural correctness, and then I choose bulls that have lower to moderate birth weights, with an extreme spread between birth weight weaning and yearling weights. They must have a plus 12 or better milk index, and positive carcass traits.
I stand an AQHA stallion to service outside mares, and raise a few foals for our own use. My land base is small so I purchase all of my feed supplies and utilize all of the fields for pastureland. I manure the fields and use commercial fertilizers sparingly. I have a large fenced out dugout and an excellent deep well for water sources.
I hold an annual production sale each spring. I usually offer for sale: 10 - 15 bulls, 5 yearling replacement heifers, and 5 cow/calf pairs. I invite our commercial bull buyers to sell pen lots of Angus or Angus cross replacement yearling heifers in the sale, and select from our purebred clients, an extra 15 purebred progeny from cattle they purchased carrying the FAQ prefix. This has proven to be a win /win situation.
Culls are slaughtered at a local plant and the carcasses are government inspected, and sold by the side or quarter. We have a number of long time FAQ Angus beef customers.
