Fibromyalgia
Living with Fibromyalgia and surviving.
By Jeannie B
Hi everyone,
My name is jeannie and I am a 44 yr old female who 7 years ago got fibromyalgia soon after a knee surgery. This is my story and I hope and pray it helps each one of you.
In life we are all given things we don't like. But when it is our health it hurts even more.
Rules to follow with having Fibromyalgia.
1.If your doctor acts like it is all in our head get another doctor.
2.You are the employer and you hire doctors to care for you.So fire any you don't like,it is your right.
3.Make sure your family doctor is willing to work with you and your pain, including options your choose to help you.
4.You will find the right doctor for you. There are many great doctors in this world who truly care about you and your pain.
5.Find out info about any pain clinic's in your area and make sure the doctor at the pain clinic understands your pain.If he does'nt, fire him and move on to another pain clinic.
6.I laugh at books I see written by MD's who think they know what fibromyalgia is,WRONG.Stand in our shoes for one day and you will then understand a little, just a little believe me.
What is fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is a very strange thing to have.Fibromyalgia is a disease that affects your muscles and causes severe muscle spasms throughout your body.NO TWO people with Fibromyalgia will have same symptoms.
But always remember you will survive as long as you have the right doctors.I had minor knee surgery 7 years ago.I had never had any back problems before, nor did I ever have problems with muscle spasms. That was until 7 days after my knee surgery.
Then my life changed totally. The first 2 years were so frustrating I did not think I could live one more day,one more hour, one more minute with the pain.
My family doctor was'nt sure why 7 days after my knee surgery I started having all the back spasms, hip spasms where I felt like the muscles were being torn from my hip bones, severe headaches plus much more.I did'nt care, I wanted something, anything that would stop that awful pain.
The headaches were so blinding that lasted for days that I did not think I could take 1 more second of the pain and vomiting.
My family doctor had no idea why all these things were happening. He ordered a MRI and the day I went for my MRI I almost walked out.
I asked the tech who would be doing my MRI if it would show my back spasms and he said no.I thought "then why I am I even here".I was mad and angry because I knew laying on that table for a hour would really kill my back and it was'nt like I needed anymore pain.
I went ahead and had the MRI and and saw my family doctor 4 days later. Not only did the MRI show my back spasms it showed I had a herniated disc at T 7-8.
I felt so relieved something showed because I knew I could not continue to live in this hell named " pain 24/7".
My family doctor stepped right up and helped me any way he could.
I knew I was so greatful for him and I thank god everyday for him and his support.
Depression is a very normal part of fibromyalgia and boy was I depressed.
I went out to Mayo Clinic and they confirmed my fibromalgia & herniated disc and told me to continue doing what I was doing.
I came back home and went into a 4 weeks pain clinic.I was happy I went as I learned alot of different things about living with pain.
The greatest thing I learned is bio feedback which I dearly love.
Anyone can learn bio feedback and I use it alot.I can teach anyone how to do bio feedback.
I decided to make this webpage because I find very little info on fibromyalgia that is'nt written my a damn doctor who does'nt have fibromyalgia.I will continue to add much more info from social security to other ways to deal with the pain. From pain pills to bio feedback to trigger point injections. What you should know before you go to physical therapy. Not all physical therapist know how to treat a person who has fibromyalgia.Believe me they can make you worse if they don't understand fibromyalgia.
Please email me for more info as I continue to work on adding alot more info here.
