Youth Programs

Summer Day Camp:
There will be 3 sessions (each 2 weeks long) of Summer Day Camp each year at two of our local schools. A full day of activities is provided for boys and girls ages 8 to 14. Day camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Breakfast and Lunch provided. Transportation is also provided. First Session begins June 7th.
Registration Fee: $25.00 for each 2-week session.

Summer Food Service Program:
This program provides Breakfast and Lunches to all kids ages 18 and under in Fannin County, free of charge for 6 weeks during the summer months. Check newspaper for dates and site.

Major League Soccer (MLS) Camp:
MLS Camps is the Official Camp and Clinic of Major League Soccer. Noted for having the most qualified and talented coaching staff in the industry, this camp is intended on helping players excel. Begins July 12th - 16th, 2004 at the new Fannin County Park. All campers must bring shin-guards and a water bottle. Register at the Recreation Department. Registration Fee: $52, 5 & 6 year olds; $87, 7 to 18 year-olds

Swimming Lessons:
Swimming Lessons are offered through the Recreation Department and the American Red Cross at the Blue Ridge Swimming Pool. Tiny-tots classes are offered for children age 4 - 5 years. Beginners, advanced beginners and intermediate classes are offered to children age 6 and older. Children are taught water safety, swimming strokes and more. Registration fee: $20.00 per 2 weeks session. Classes are taught Monday, Wednesday and Friday in June-July.

Tennis Lessons:
Tennis Lessons for boys and girls 10 and older are offered as a camp in June and July. Instructor is Chris Mashburn. Dates and times to be announced

Youth Football:
Our Football program consists of 2 teams: Peewee for kids 9 & 10-years-old, and Midget for 11 & 12-year-olds. Season runs September through the first weekend in November. Games are scheduled with Gilmer, Pickens, Towns, and Fannin Counties. Registration begins in July. Registration Fee: $50.00

Cheerleading:
Our cheerleading program is for girls age 8 to 12. The cheerleading program runs in the fall in conjunction with the football program. Registration Fee: $50.00

Soccer Fall Season:
The fall season of soccer is open to all boys and girls age 4 to 16 years old. Approximately 390 children participated in the fall of 2003. Registration begins July at the Fannin County Recreation Department.
Registration Fee: $45.00

Youth Basketball:
The Fannin County Recreation Department has established one of the largest youth basketball programs in the state with 57 teams participating in the fall of 2003. Basketball is open to all boys and girls age 7 to 14. Registration begins in October. Registration Fee: $35.00

Soccer Spring Season:
The spring season of soccer begins in February for both boys and girls leagues in the u10 and u12 age groups. Registration begins the first week in February and games starting the second weekend in March. For more information, contact the Fannin County Recreation Department at 706-632-7696. Baseball & Girls Fast-pitch Softball:
Begins Late February. For more information concerning baseball, contact the Dizzy Dean Youth Baseball Association. For more information regarding softball, contact the Fannin County Girls Softball Associaton at 706-632-3526 or the Fannin County Recreation Department at 706-632-7696.

Bobby Simpson Girls Softball Camps:
Higher Ground and the Fannin County Recreation Department have scheduled a special all-skills softball player’s clinic. Instructors include nationally ranked softball players. So you want to be sure to participate in this unique opportunity to learn from the best. Register at the Fannin County Recreation Department. Coming March 2005.

Doyle Academy Baseball Players Clinic:
America’s “Finest” baseball school is coming to Fannin County. Hosted by the Fannin Co. Rec. Dept., the Doyle Academy baseball experts will instruct a one-day training camp demonstrating their Plan for Success through professional instruction and evaluation in hitting, throwing and fielding. Remember to bring your own bat and glove. Also, carry gym shoes for indoor use in case of bad weather. Coming in March 2005, at the Blue Ridge City Park. Register at the Fannin County Recreation Department.








Adult Programs

Open Men/ Women’s Basketball League (Fall Season):
The Fannin County Recreation Department and the Gilmer County Recreation Department have consolidated this program under one roof, and we are running this program in Gilmer County. Co-ed Volleyball Spring League (Family Recreational Atmosphere):
The Fannin County Recreation Department will be hosting a co-ed Volleyball League this spring season, intended for the family recreational atmosphere. Games will begin Tuesday, April 13th. For those who enjoy volleyball at any level – beginner, intermediate and advanced players welcome! This league is designed to improve skills while keeping fun and family a priority. Register your team at the Fannin County Recreation Department. Or if you do not have a team we will try to place you on a team. For more information, contact Daniel Scherer at 706-632-7696.

Tennis Ladders (Spring and Summer):
Tennis Ladders are started in late spring and early summer for all tennis buffs. Names are taken at the Recreation Department over the phone. Names are drawn randomly from a hat for seeding positions on the ladder, which is then printed weekly in the newspaper so you can challenge your competition until you reach the top of the ladder. Tennis Ladders consist of singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

Senior Adult Swim:
Swimming time is set aside for Senior Adults only, at the Blue Ridge pool from June through September. Exact dates and times will be announced, subject to weather and water temperature. No Fee

Adult Swimming Lessons:
Swimming Lessons for adults will be offered this summer for beginners and also for those who would like to improve their present swimming skills. Classes will be offered in June and July during evening hours depending on pool availability. Watch the newspaper announcements for dates, times and fees.

Georgia Golden Olympics:
The Georgia Golden Olympics provides the opportunity for all 55 years and older to participate in social, competitive, recreational and athletic events. Competition includes basketball, billiards, bowling, checkers, swimming, walking and more. Held at Warner Robbins Air Force Base. Dates to be announced, contact the Fannin County Recreation Department for more information at 706-632-7696.

Adult Softball Leagues:
Men’s, Women’s and Coed Softball is offered, June through August. For more information on softball, contact the Fannin County Recreation Department.

Tennis League:
Runs throughout the summer and fall months. We challenge surrounding counties to compete at home and away matches. Watch for more information on this program in the local newspaper, or call the Recreation Department at 706-632-7696.

Co-ed Volleyball League (Fall Season):
Our fall season of coed volleyball runs September through November, depending on the number of teams involved in the league. Tuesday night league is for recreational teams and Thursday night for more competitive teams. Call the Recreation Department and register by teams, or if you don’t have a team but would like to play, leave your name and we will try to place you on a team.

N.Y.S.C.A. Basketball Clinic:
The Recreation Department will certify Youth Basketball coaches through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association clinic. Offered in November! Certification Fee: $20.00 payable to N.Y.S.C.A.

Bobby Simpson Softball Coaches Clinic:
An internationally acclaimed organization, Higher Ground, and the Fannin County Recreation Dept. have scheduled a special all-skills softball coaches clinic. An outstanding staff has been secured and sessions will include advanced and basic topics, with much information and hands-on activity. This is also a softball coach’s certification course. Register at the Fannin County Recreation Department. Coming March 2005!

Doyle Baseball Coaches Certification Program:
Hosted by the Fannin County Recreation Dept., the certification program will be held at the Blue Ridge City Park in March 2005. Class fee is $23 per coach. We invite coaches of all levels who are interested to attend. Expect hands-on training techniques and practice organization tips, as well as learn hitting, throwing, fielding and sliding drills. You will also receive solutions and complete printed terms used in training. Remember to bring your glove and wear workout clothes. Also, please bring gym shoes for possible indoor use.

Georgia State Soccer Referee and Coaching Courses:
The Fannin County Recreation Department will be hosting a series of coaching courses for all volunteer coaches in July for our soccer program. Also, referee courses will be offered in the spring (February or March). The Georgia State Soccer Association will provide professionals to train both coaching and referee courses.
