GENERAL CHURCH COUNCIL Held at the Lone Tree Church, Galva, Kansas October 16, 1944

1. Reimbursing CPS Brethren
The Council unanimously agreed to aid or reimburse our CPS
brethren, at least in part, for the time spent in camp.
The necessary funds are to be raised through the present MCC collection system. (Later it was agreed to give them $10.00 per month for the time spent in CPS.)
2. Mennonite Union Aid
Since the 1942 General Conference asked for a workable mutual aid plan, the Mennonite Union Aid Plan was presented and permission was granted for its operation, subject to the approval of next General Conference.
3. Purchase of Mission Property
This Council reaffirms a former decision to purchase the whole tract of 1100 acres adjoining our Mexico Mission. The balance of the funds to be raised by donations or other preferable methods.
4. Mercy Hospital
The Council permitted the directors of Mercy Hospital to operate said hospital under present plan until next General Conference, when some plan shall be considered agreeable to conditions, with the privilege that the present plan may be amended where necessary, including its incorporation into a separate unit not to involve any other Church property. (Later: In a special meeting on January 2, 1945, it was resolved to incorporate it as "Mercy Hospital, Moundridge, Kansas.") (Refer to Art. 19a, 1946 Conference.)
5. Peacetime Conscription
With peacetime conscription a possibility, we have placed our attitude before the proper authorities and hope for gracious

consideration by our government under which we so far have had our liberty

6. Ministers' Session
Following the general sessions, a special ministers' session was held
on behalf of peace and unity. Preaching, discipline, and Christian
labors, as well as points on pride, education, courtship, immodest dress, and oppressing the poor were under discussion. Many good inspiring instructions were given by many of the older ministers. We
agree to endeavor to stem the world-ward trend wherever threatening
our faith, beginning in our homes and local congregations.
