What Wonderful People by UCSBdad

What Wonderful People,

We watch Farscape, and go to the conventions, as I just did, because of it's intelligent writing, it's talented cast, it's excellent production values and because it's a fascinating, ever changing vision of a Universe we'll never really see.
Okay, some of us watch it because it has cute chicks and they blow up lots of stuff.
But we have even more reasons to watch Farscape, as I found out in Burbank. There are a whole load of wonderful people associated with Farscape. A number of other people are, or have done, reports of the Burbank Convention itself. I'd like to just pass on some personal observations based on the people I saw and had a, too brief, opportunity to meet and observe personally.
If you're a fan of Lani Tupu, Wayne Pygram, Anthony Simcoe or Fran Buller, (Mrs. Browder), please don't think that I'm slighting them or that I don't like them. It's just that I didn't have the opportunity to meet and observe them.
We'll start, well, where else, with Our Beloved Raven Haired Goddess, Claudia Black. Let me set the stage. It was Saturday night at the karaoke contest. Claudia, Gigi, Tammy, Wayne and Lani were judging. As Claudia left the stage, she turned and smiled in my direction and I promptly fell over on my back. That's all I can remember until I woke up on the airplane to San Francisco two days later. Can that lady EVER smile! Hey, I did better than last year. Last year I didn't wake up after she smiled at me until Christmas. Sure, later, a nice lady named "Tex" tried to apologize and claim she had accidentally tripped me, but I know what really happened. Claudia's smile!
Maybe I'll remember a little more about Her Claudianess as this goes on.
Froonium Ricky. AKA Richard Manning. Friendly, accessible and droll. The only thing wrong with him is that he hangs around with the likes of UCSBdad, Stevepalmer and Britpete. No good can come of that. On the other hand, anyone who knows Claudia Black must be okay.
The Charity breakfast was like being hit by Hurricane Gigi and Tammy all at once. Are those two ladies ever enthusiastic, happy, energetic, involved in Farscape and did I say energetic? I was afraid they'd explode if they got too close to each other.
Tammy was bouncing around the room and talking to and hugging everyone in sight. I think she did a lot of good for her character at the Con. You may not like Jool, but if you don't love Tammy after the Con, you'll have to go over and sit by the Grinch. Or, maybe you can sit by Larry the razor tooth vorlag and he'll do a little attitude adjustment.
Gigi was kind enough to stop and talk to me for a few seconds and to let me have my picture taken with her. I hadn't really realized what a tiny thing she is. I hope they feed her well in Oz, she must burn up about a billion calories a day.
I do recall that Our Lady of Perpetual Leather, Claudia Black, was there, too. She is less frenetic that The Tammy and Gigi Experience, but every bit as friendly and warm. She also talked to me and even let me put my arm around her waist to have a picture taken. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Miss Black. The pleasure was mine.
You expect Aeryn Sun to be a little bulky, so I was surprised at how slender Claudia Black is. I'd guess she'd be about 5" 8' or so with no shoes and looks a little more fragile than you'd expect. Now I'll be worried about her. But from everything I saw in Burbank, she is a very intelligent and talented actress as well as a charming, witty, friendly and courteous lady.
During an intermission I was told to go get a drink of water by a friend and Stevepalmer and I decided to see what was up. There in a corridor was Ben Browder. In a post last year after I met him at that Burbank Con, I said Ben Browder was a great guy. I'll have to amend that. Please put about fifty "verys" in front of "great guy." Ben Browder is about as little like the unfortunate stereotype of a "STAR" as you can imagine. He was friendly, funny, very family oriented, and I suspect he lurks big time on the Sci Fi BB. He knew my children were in college and he knew who Stevepalmer was, as well as things about other people who came by. So, when you post out there, Ben Browder is probably watching you.
I had a photo that I wanted to get autographed for some 'scapers in Oz who didn't have a chance for a Con. However, no one had a pen that would write well on a glossy photo. Ben promptly took off to get a pen, with poor UCSBdad thinking, "OHMYGOD! I chased Ben Browder away. Everybody will hate me!" But, he came right back, signed my photo, and was charming to about a dozen or more people for ten or fifteen minutes. GO BEN!
We'll, end with, who else, Claudia Black. At the autograph session I gave her a little present from a friend of mine who couldn't get to the Con. But, Aeryn Sun told me to be SURE to thank my friend. Or else, I imagine. I hadn't intended to have the photo for my friends in Oz signed by Claudia. It's one autograph per star and I wanted Her Claudianess' picture with her autograph for myself. So sue me. But, Claudia was kind enough to volunteer a second autograph for Oz.
You don't see Good Old UCSBdad stuck for words very often, (you may have noticed that), but I really can't think of enough nice things to say about Claudia Black.
The Burbank Con was great and I hope that next year I can get better acquainted with everyone.
And remember, be careful out there,

UCSBdad
