POETRY

OF

HOPE

AND

INSPIRATION

BY

ANGELA L. JOHNSON

This is dedicated to all the victims of September 11, 2001. It also has poems to inspire everyday citizens. It is a comfort to read something that had you in mind. So, read it and know that the spirit behind this will comfort you.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Like many citizens, here in America, I, too, was affected by the acts of terror that took place on September 1, 2001. I was in a state of shock and disbelief. I found myself glued to the television for about two or three days.

Like many Americans, I, too, wanted to go and help. However, I knew that I couldn't, at the time. As each day, after the attack, went by, I still kept feeling like I had to do something. I was feeling helpless. As I was sitting in my home, one day, I was thinking about the current world events and the many issues we face each day. I started to write my feelings down. As a result, these poems came into place.

At the time of these writings, I was a thirty-seven year old house-wife and the mother of a four-year old son. My name is Angela L. Johnson. Like many citizens, I,too, wanted to contribute something to society.

These poems were written to inspire and encourage us all. In some small way, maybe even have us all take time to stop and think about the many events that's occuring in our lives, daily.

To all victims of terrorism everywhere, past and present, I dedicate this poetry to you. To our Armed Forces and Allies around the world, I Salute You. To our President and all other government officials, my respect and prayers are with you as you continue to lead and guide our nation/world through these difficult times.

God Bless Us All as we continue to move forward with each passing day.

A Nations's Cry
We may never understand the hatred of some men who would come and take the lives off another's land. This truely is not God's plan.

As our nation struggles to go on, we must love one another, and treat each other as a sister and a brother. Let us now stand together in peace and in war. We shall never forget those who lost their lives, because of freedom. Truely, that is worth fighting for. We salute all our military forces at home and abroad.

Fear

Fear is a strong force, If indorsed.

Fear can not live here, Because it hasn't been invited in.

Fear can not move in, There isn't any room.

Fear can not stay, Because it has no home.

Fear can not rule, Because it has no power.

Fear can not stay, Because it has been sent away.

Fear can not conquer, Because it has been beaten.

Fear Oh Fear, It shall never live here.

Hope In Sorrow

There is hope in our deepest sorrow,

In Knowing and Trusting God.

That there will be a better tomorrow,

That, someday, our children can walk the streets without wondering about the next person they'll meet.

Sorrow isn't easy to bear.

By knowing there are people who care, who feel the burdens and grief we share, gives us Hope In Sorrow.

A Nation's Prayer

Lord, Bless our nation as we start to restore that which has been broken. That which has been destroyed physically, mentally and spiritially. Give us wisdom in times of decision. Give us strength in times of battle. Give us grace and mercy in times of sorrow. Give us peace in times of trouble. Lord, Bless our nation to heal from the wounds that have been inflicted by strangers unknown. To learn from the tragedy that somehow, someway we are all connected.

Keep America's Spirit Alive

Let's Keep America's Spirit Alive by showing the world, We Will Survive. We must move forward by trying to understand our fellow man. We must continue to pray for our nation and also for others abroad, who are part of Gods' creation.

Let The Healing Begin

Hey! I say let the healing begin by sharing a simple smile or grin. Let the healing begin by showing you care. In happy times and in sad times; what matters most is that you're there to share in sorrow and in victory. My brother, my sister, Let the healing begin by loving one another from beginning to end.

Time Of Change

A time of change has come, for each one of us, to live each day as never before. To stop and show our fellow man how much we care, by extending a helping hand. It doesn't matter, big or small, how much we give. What matters most is, that we take time to love and enjoy our most precious gift, Life, that only God can give.

Children, Children

Children, Children, Do not fear

Remember, God is always near

To hear your faintest prayer

Even when others are not there

He will never let you down

Regardless of what is going on

God will keep you safe

In His Loving Arms

Hero

There's a hero in all of us

Waiting to come forth,

Never knowing the day or hourWhen it will come our time to shine and show,

What God has placed in so long ago.

A loving heart, A caring spirit

To perform a selfless act.

There's a hero in all of us,

This I truly know.

Mr. President

Mr. President, Mr. President, Oh!

What weights you must bear

As our nation presses on to repair

The damage, The pain and grief we all feel

In times of trouble and despair.

Mr. President you must be strong

By knowing that God is with you

So that you can continue to go on.

As in times past,

Now in our present day

We, Mr. President,

Look forward to a brighter day.

Choose Love

Choose love instead of hate,

It will only cause you to deteriate

Like cancer that's untreated,

It takes control until there's nothing left.

Love is greater,

It heals the spirit and body.

Love will help you through,

Whatever life may bring,

Bad or good. Love helps you to succeed

Even in times of need.

Choose love instead of hate,

This we all can celebrate.

Everybody's City

New York, New York is everybody's city.

A city so nice

It was named twice.

People from all around the world

Of every race, creed and color, come here to see

The big-tall buildings

The beautiful bright-lights

And all the glamour of New York sites.

It has opened its' arms to everyone to come

With hopes and dreams of becoming

Something more.

Because of this New York, New York

You are everybody's city.

Thankful

As never before,

We all have something to be thankful for,

Thankful for the air we breathe everyday

Thankful for another day

To share our lives with family and friends

Thankful to God for everlasting love

That will never end

Thankful to live in a nation

That allows us all a freedom

To make a difference in each of our lives

And others as well.

Thankful, most of all,

Just to be Thankful.

Home

Home is where pain and grief are dealt with,

Home is where healing starts,

Home is where love starts and continues to live,

Home is where you're Free to be yourself,

Without having to perform, in costumes, to impress the outside world,

Home is where we all should feel safe and free, just to be me.

Working Poor

There is a people that's increasing in our nation, everyday.

Who and where are these people, you may ask.

I go to work, from 9 to 5, each and every day,

Just like you. to earn my pay,

Only to earn a few dollars, hoping it will be enough to pay my rent,

I can't afford to buy much food, I have children in school.

I can't even get any help.

You say there's welfare,

They say I make too much money, Oh! That's not fair.

I pay taxes just like you, Only to be told there's nothing for you.

I pray that I don't get ill, because I can't afford medical insurance to pay the bill.

You, my fellow citizens, may say,

Oh! What a shame and disgrace.

Like you, and many others, I'm the working poor.

I'm just part of the human race.

Brand New Day

It's a brand new day, compared to yesterday! No longer can we ignore that our world, today, is in turmoil. Because mankind has failed to understand Gods' divine plan. No longer can we be caught up in our own selfish lust and greed. We must care for our fellow citizes in need. No longer can we ignore the cries of our elderly and poor. We are connected with each other, from shore to shore. We must strive to make a difference and do more.

America! America! It truly is a brand new day for us to act, not only with great words but, in deeds as well.

Death Of The Family

There's a silent death that is occurring in our nation each and every day. You won't hear about it on the local or international news. You won't read about it in your newspapers but, it's occurring silently and slowly. You say, Where's the obituary? I say, There isn't one. You say, Who's dieing? Our families. We're dieing by the thousands. This, you say, can't be so! It started when we exchanged our dinner time for late boardroom meetings. We've allowed our children to be disciplined by our televisions and the computer age. Our children then start to feel victimized because, our society has lost what matters most, Our Families. Our families, don't you think that's worth investing in? I encourage everyone to take some personal time to be with your families. Truly, I trust and pray, that this will not be our nations' destiny.

Precious Gift Of Time

Time is a precious gift, let's not waste it.

Time is valuable. It cannot be bought by the wealthiest person alive,

Time is costly, when not used wisely.

Time is rewarding, when invested wisely.

Time, nobody can give or take,

for it comes from only God above. In knowing this, my wish is to give, live and enjoy the time I have been allotted. Truly this I know for sure, on no one, will time wait.

Success

Success can be measured, sometimes, by graphs and carts. Success can be equated to numbers and bank accounts. Success can even be measured by certain living standard. Success can be assumed because of fame or celebritism. True success starts from within, by acknowledging you're no more or less. It's just knowing you're blessed. To find a true love who has been there for you in the good and the bad. Or, It may be to see your children become adults and their children grow. Yet, still know, that everything you have instilled in them, will continue to grow. This, I say, is true success, when you can say this about life; Lord, I truly, gave it all my best!

United

We must become united,

If we want to be strong,

To remain separated from each other,

We can only go wrong.

How Long? How Long? Will we let this continue on, before we're determined that something must be done - to break the chains and barriers that so long separated us from the world and others like us?

Will it take more senseless deaths, Lack of understanding each other,

Before we realize that we're all a part of each other?

United! United! We must become,

Mighty and Strong, All in One.

Terrorism

Terrorism is devasting to us all,

When it attacks its' victims,

Who are unaware that it's there.

It often leaves scars, to remind us that it has been here.

This is why we cannot let terrorism rule our lives, we cannot let terrorism breed fear.

When fear comes, it causes more devastation in our nation. We cannot allow terrorism to determine our destination in life, this will only cause more strife. We must continue to fight against terrorism because, this is truly right.

Look Inside

Take a deep look inside of ourselves

and we will discover, we're all quite the same, in some form or another.

Take a deep look inside, we will discover, No - One has the right to discriminate against another because of ones' race, creed or color. Not even because of the way one may look or dress; Not even if they speak differently than you and I.

Let us start to respect and live with each other. One day. we can truly love each other. It's all a part of our Gods' great plan, who made us all the same, yet different, to show all, the beauty of mankind.

Life

Life is sweet, most of the time

Life can be bitter, sometimes

As each new day unfolds,

We enjoy the beauty it holds.

Like seasons come,

And seasons go,

Life is forever changing, faster and faster than ever before.

At times, Life is quite demanding,

From birth 'till death, Life is amazing and indeed, a mystery, itself.

Let Go, Let God

When it seems as if all hope is gone,

Let Go, Let God.

When the burdens of this life seem too hard to bear,

Let Go, Let God.

When you feel no one understands or cares,

Let Go, Let God.

God is always here to hear our faintest prayers,

Ready, Willing and Waiting to heal and bless our lives.

To restore that which has been broken,

Let Go, Let God.

It's the only way in which we all can heal.

Repentance

A time of repentance has come

For us all to reflect back over our lives,

To ask for forgiveness,

From those we have offended and caused harm.

Forgive all whom we feel have offended us,

And caused us harm, as well.

We take so much for granted,

And even assume some things are a given.

We are a blessed nation,

With unlimited resources.

But, yet, there are still so many living in poverty.

We must repent from greed, lust and hatred.

This has gone on much too long.

If we want to continue on this journey,

We must reflect, repent and re-develop our lives.

To do better towards ourselves and others.

Not just here in our own nation but, other nations, as well.

For this is the time of repentance for us all.
