Christmas Eve
The snowflakes slowly drift down
Through the hole in the roof
Onto the old tree stand
And the floor where we once stood
Not so long ago
The sound of children’s laughter
Echoes though the empty room
Once decorated in green and red
While visions of sugarplums
Danced in our heads
Visions of wrapping paper
Strewn about
Enter my head
As I stand there remembering
All the Christmas past’s
And how happy we were
Before the fights
And the fire
Before the loan sharks
And the bill collectors
We were just another family
Happy to be together
On that Christmas day
Now, we stand around the fire
Trying to get warm
Struggling to decide how to tell our kids
The Santa won’t be coming this year
