Maralina galloped her horse to Rohan, she wasn’t sure that she would make it. Oh she pushed her horse and pushed her. Her horse, Aranel, a grey Arabian was running her heart out!! Oh, how Aranel loved to run, but Maralina had to get to Rohan to see Faramir, who was very sick. Eowyn was doing all she could for him, but Faramir needed the Elf medicine which Maralina had. Maralina was chosen by Elrond, the Lord of all Elves, because she rode hard and wasn’t afraid of anything. Maralina galloped over hills and mountains and rough terrain. She loved the view from her fiery Arabian, but she tried to keep her mind on track. She just had to get to Rohan!!! She rode hard and finally came through the boundaries after what seemed like forever!!! She rushed and got up to the palace and gave her elf medicine to Faramir. She stayed with Faramir for several days until he was perfectly well. To her surprise, her old friend Legolas, was there with Aragorn and Gimli. They were all there visiting with Faramir. They offered to escort Maralina back to Rivendell, but she did not want them to think that she was a weakling. After a lot of persuading, she decided to let them escort her. Aragorn went too, because Arwen was spending time with the other Elves before she left to go to Lothlorien. So after Aranel had gotten her rest, for she was very tired after her hard run to Rivendell, they started off. The day of the journey, Aranel was very antsy and excited, for she could sense that today she was going home to her nice homey stable in Rivendell. Aragorn had Brego all saddled up, and Legolas had Arod, his grey Andalusian all saddled for him and Gimli to ride. They started off and Legolas challenged Maralina to a race. Oh, how Maralina loved a good race. She just couldn’t resist!!! She said yes and Legolas was threatening to toss Gimli to Aragorn, but Gimli was very distraught about this, and Gimli said “no one tosses a dwarf!!!!”. So Legolas halted Arod and helped Gimli dismount and helped him mount on Brego, who shied and the weight of Aragorn and the weight of the heavy dwarf. (no offense to Gimli) But Aragorn quieted and comforted a confused Brego and Brego settled down at his master's command. Luckily, they found three trees which were in a straight row which were far enough apart for their horses to fit in between. Maralina and Legolas walk their horses in and halted them. Aragorn called the “GO” and Arod and Aranel charged out of the gate as though they were propelled by cannons. Since it was a long ride to Rivendell, they paced their horses and cantered them out of the gate, just for looks. They slowed their fresh horses into a trot. They trotted up the hills and cantered down. They would change places from time to time. Aragorn was almost to Rivendell, so that he could call who won. Aranel is currently in the lead and then Arod sped up and passes Aranel and Maralina. Maralina let him go, because she knew that Arod would run out of stamina, for Arabians had the best stamina of all horses. Arod was an Andalusian, so he had that to a disadvantage, but Andalusians had a bigger stride, for Arabians are usually very small. Aranel was small, so that was to her disadvantage. But it was fair, both horses had their advantages and disadvantages. They were starting to cross the boundaries of Rivendell. Arod was tiring, Maralina could tell. She had a good eye and hand for horses and knew how to make them run. Arod had been her horse for some time, before she traded her beloved Andalusian Stallion to Rohan for Aranel, which it was love at first sight for Maralina and Aranel. They were about three quarters of a mile from the gates where an exhausted Brego was standing the pushed Aranel into a canter who eagerly took her chance to pass Arod. Maralina asked for a gallop and Aranel took off like she had been propelled from a catapult!! Aranel charged passed Arod, who was starting to find his gear. Arod was gaining but he was giving it his all. But his all wasn’t enough for the fiery little Arabian Mare. Aranel found another gear and charged forward, they were almost one quarter of a mile and Aranel was not tiring. Arod was dropping back, but Legolas was asking for more, Arod finally found another gear and started to gain on Maralina and Aranel. But little Aranel hadn’t tired yet and found her last gear, she was giving it her all and charged past Aragorn and Brego, who stared in awe at the little mare’s speed. Maralina circled Aranel to slow her speed who responded and dropped from a gallop to a canter to a trot to a walk. Aranel was blowing hard and was tired, but that didn’t stop her from arching her neck and prancing in glee as Legolas and Arod pulled through the gate, as if to gloat. Legolas went up and congratulated Maralina, for they had raced each other as children, but it was Legolas who always won. Legolas and Maralina cooled their horses out and they talked. Maralina felt Aranel’s chest; it was cool. Maralina was walking Aranel toward the barn, when Legolas stopped her and said, “Will you marry me?, I’ve waited for this for a long time, I just wanted the right moment.” Maralina said yes and there was a wonderful wedding on horseback in Rivendell that day: Legolas on Arod and Maralina on Aranel. When Elrond announced “You may kiss the bride”, Legolas and Maralina kissed gently and Elrond said that he was proud to announce for the very first time Mr. and Mrs. Legolas Greenleaf. Maralina and Legolas walked down the aisle on horse-back holding hands and Aranel and Arod playfully nosing each other. ::One year Later:: Legolas was rushing back and forth, trying to decide who stay with: Maralina or Aranel. They were both having their babies. By the end of the day, Legolas and Arod were proud papas. Maralina had a little girl named Alassiel, which means first-born, since she was Maralina and Legolas’ first child. Aranel also had a little girl, a filly, who was named Bellethiel, for the name means strong. Soon, Bellethiel was broken to ride and Alassiel was the first to ride Bellethiel. They went out as a family to ride and they had wonderful times together. Alassiel was soon racing Bellethiel in Middle- Earth competitions. She and her filly were soon the best racers in Middle Earth. She continued to race and had a lot of fun doing it. Bellethiel lived up to her name, which means strong. Maralina had more children and Aranel had more foals. All this was because of The Race.
