SPANISH LEARNING PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
The Spanish Learning Program in Adams Morgan presents an exceptional opportunity to learn Spanish immersed in a Latino community. Native speakers specially trained in teaching Spanish as a foreign language will conduct classes solely in Spanish to ensure superior comprehension and speaking skills.
This four level Spanish program is designed for busy professionals that have an interest in learning practical Spanish vocabulary and grammar or in improving previously acquired Spanish skills. Class discussion will focus on topics of student interest. This program was created in collaboration with other professionals and organizations.
Location
The Spanish Learning Institute is located in The National Hispanic Council's Headquarters in Adams Morgan, the largest Latino community in the District of Columbia.

Class Structure and Levels
This Spanish Program consists of four levels: beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
Each level emphasizes intensive conversation and the study of practical vocabulary and grammatical structure. Discussions focus on topics of student interest.
Beginner
This level is designed for those students who have not studied Spanish. It is designed to provide the student with the basics of Spanish including basic but important vocabulary, greetings, introductions, numbers, and verbs in present tense. Various texts and material will be used.
CLASS 1
· Introductions.
· Alphabet.
· Numbers. (1 al 10)
· Personals pronouns. (Yo, Tú, Él, Ella, Esto, Esta, Nosotros, Ustedes, Ellos)
· Personal information. (Yo vivo en …. Yo trabajo en … Yo soy….etc).
· Verbs in infinitive and present tense, (ar, er, ir).
CLASS 2
· Review of the last class. (1 ½ hour)
· Practical vocabulary (classroom vocabulary I)
· Gender of the words, Articles, (EL, LOS, LA, LAS)
· Questions with: (Quién, Dónde, Cuál, Qué, Cómo, Dónde)
· Practical verbs in present tense. (First person in singular)
CLASS 3
· Review of the last class. (1 hour)
· Practical vocabulary (classroom vocabulary II)
· Places, prepositions. (en, sobre, bajo, de bajo de, a lado, enfrente, detrás, entre, etc)
· Practical verbs in present tense. (1st, 2nd and 3rd in singular)
· Verb to be in present tense. (SER) (First part)
CLASS 4
· Review of the last class. (45 minutes)
· Practical vocabulary. (office I)
· Verbs in present tense. (1st, 2nd and 3rd person in plural)
· Verb to be in present tense. (ESTAR) (Second part).
· Present progressive
CLASS 5
· Review of the last class. (30 minutes)
· Practical vocabulary. (office II)
· Possessive adjectives.
· Possessive pronouns.
· Verbs in past tense. (1st and 2nd person in singular)
· Verb to be in past tense. (SER).
CLASS 6
· Review of the last class. (30 minutes)
· Practical vocabulary. (Home I)
· Verbs in past tense. (1st , 2nd and 3rd person in singular)
· Verb to be in past tense. (ESTAR)
· Past progressive.
CLASS 7
· Review of the last class. (1 hour)
· Practical vocabulary. (Home II)
· Verbs in past tense. (1st, 2nd, and 3rd person in singular and plural)
CLASS 8
· General review.
· Class cultural outing.
Advanced beginner
This level is designed for those students who have taken basic Spanish classes and want to improve their conversation skills. The simple present, preterit, imperfect, future and progressive tenses will be covered. Various texts and material will be used.
Intermediate
This class is designed to improve students' Spanish speaking and writing skills. Tense will be reviewed and the pluscuan-perfect and subjunctive tenses will be introduced. This level will provide the student more complex study of the language including the simple present, preterit, imperfect, future and progressive. Though class discussion students will expand their vocabulary and gain confidence in their speaking skills.
(Placement test is required).
Advanced
This level is designed especially to improve professional proficiency. Each class of the Advanced Level will be organized around conversation topics such as current events, public policy, health issues, culture, literature and other topics.
The instructor will review grammatical structures during the second half of the class, including the subjunctive, "If" clauses, the passive voice, the imperfect subjunctive, etc.
(Placement test is required).
Length of Program
Classes are held once a week, 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. for eight weeks.

Teachers
This program has exceptional native-speaking instructors that are specially trained in the teaching of Spanish and have many years of experience. All levels of Spanish are taught only in Spanish to ensure superior comprehension and speaking skills.
