During the era of the WONDERFUL ONES SOCIETY, people flocked in the theaters of Manila in unprecedented numbers.
The theaters, e.g. Avenue, Ideal, State, Lyric, Capitol, Galaxy, Odeon, Cinerama, Times, Roxanne, Ever, Society, Scala, Rialto, and Boulevard showed films produced by Hollywood studios like 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer, Universal, Paramount, RKO Radio, Republic & United Artists. In the early part of our existence, some great stars were already putting up their last picture shows and heading towards the sunset in their career. Among them were Clark Gable, Ronald Coleman, Spencer Tracy, Dick Powell, Humphrey Bogart, Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly, James Cagney, George Raft, Edward G. Robinson, Victor McLaglen, Fredrick March, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb, Fred MacMurray, John Payne, Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power, Robert Taylor, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Joel McRae, Rod Cameron, Ray Milland, Randolph Scott, Alan Ladd, Audie Murphy, Van Heflin, Van Johnson, Stewart Granger, Robert Ryan, Gordon McRae, Fernando Lamas, Vittorio Gassman, Fred Astaire, Cornel Wilde, Howard Duff, Robert Walker, John Garfield, James Dean, Claudette Colbert, Vivien Leigh, Betty Grable, Hedy Lamarr, Maureen Ohara, Virginia Mayo, Marlene Dietrich, Jean Arthur, Linda Darnel, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, Ann Blyth, Ida Lupino, Loretta Young, Jennifer Jones, Alexis Smith, Yvonne de Carlo, Jean Peters, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Esther Williams, Audrey Totter, Dorothy Lamour, Gene Tierney, Martha Toren, Margaret Chapman, Ginger Rogers, Claire Trevor, Larraine Day, Veronica Lake, etc. Some especially, foreign stars were in the limelight only for a few years, as in the case of Sylvana Mangano, Rosanna Podesta and Jack Sernas. Many of their contemporaries and near contemporaries continued to make pictures though and were far from waning. Among them were Burt Lancaster, Glenn Ford, John Wayne, William Holden, Kirk Douglas, Richard Widmark, Tony Curtis, Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Rock Hudson, Sterling Hayden, Anthony Perkins, Montgomery Clift, Cliff Robertson, Richard Burton, Yul Brynner, Bob Hope, Ricardo Montalban, Cary Grant, James Stewart, Macdonald Carey, Elvis Presley, Pat Boone, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Dale Robertson, Robert Wagner, Rory Calhoun, Forrest Tucker, Steve Cochran, Arthur Kennedy, Lee J. And then there were the supporting stars like Walter Brennan, Arthur O'Connel, George Sanders, Russ Tamblyn, Thelma Ritter, Katy Jurado, Lloyd Bridges, etc. Towards the end of our era, some new stars appeared on the horizon and rose later into prominence. Among them were Julie Andrews, Ann-Margret, Shirley Jones, Roger Moore, Steve McQueen, Rod Taylor, Sean Connery, Warren Beatty, Clint Eastwood, etc. So now, at least you know who the stars were during our time! They contributed a great deal to the wonderful world enjoyed by the Wonderful Ones Society (1953-l966)! Perhaps the stars you now see in the movies were not even born yet!
