ENCOUNTER 3 the next year -Location Temple & City
B75 951BC approx - just over a year since E1 and probably several months
since E2
[there is an outside possibility that this undated encounter might
follow on from the abrupt ending of encounter 4]
The best way to explain the sequence of events in E3 is to accept the
comings and goings
of a transparent command capsule and 2 identical craft[10:1 &11:22-23],
one under repair.
Text 8:1-4 9:1 - 11 10:1-22 11: 1-2, 22-25
8:1 He is sitting at home with the elders of Judah when, again, 'the
hand of the Lord God' fell/came upon him.
E108 The word 'fell' is not used anywhere else in connection with the
hand of God.
8:2 He sees what looked like a man/ a form like the appearance of fire.
He seemed to be all fire from his semblance of waist/loins down
and was what appeared like heavenly brightness/to shine and
glitter/gleam like brass/bronze
from his semblance of waist/loins upwards/ looked like a myriad
twinkling star, like the sparkling of electrum.
This form might be that of E1 [1:27+] now seen more clearly in the open.
8:3-5 He stretched out what seemed a hand and seized me by the forelock.
A spirit/wind/ and wind/spirit the spirit of power [see 11:24] lifted me
up between heaven and earth,
and bore/carried me to Jerusalem in visions of God/ a vision of God[E108
phrase a later addition]
and put me down at the entrance door to the inner gate facing North,
[Its not certain whether he's inside or outside the temple,]
Under orders, Ezekiel lifts his eyes to look North to the altar set up
before the pillar image of
Asherah/queen of heaven/pleasure [ E122-3]. Yahweh is jealous of this
image , which guards the temple threshold..
As when the scroll was presented, A 'hand' [in 2:9 it was a hand]
stretches out.
Ezekiel's hair now stands on end as he feels seized by an invisible
force.
Modern contactees have similar experiences after seeing a form in a
metallic-like suit.
This indicates the manifestation or arrival of a strong field of static
electricity [B103-4]causing:
[1] a change in consciousness in which a form is seen
[2] hair to stand on end, feeling as if pulled
[3] a rush of air lifting & moving him
[4] a 'shamanistic' aerial flight looking down on earth and seeing
things from this perspective [also see 3:14-15, 11:1, 24, 43:5].
This explains the elders seeing nothing unusual, nor his disappearance.
Blumrich [43] feels the wind/spirit of power is a backpack which lifts
him up to the capsule 'vision[s] of God'.
B 91,106-7 He is brought accompanied or by remote control to the
temple/house complex of a city with a mountain to the east
later wrongly identified as the Temple of Solomon[it has different
layout] west of the Mount of Olives.
The location is probably the Sinai base 900 years on.
The mountain to the east could be part of the large Holy Mountain rising
above the base plateau [see Encounter 4].
He is put down at the City's Temple entrance.
Its almost certain that the temple is on the edge of the city, but it
could be in its midst.
8:4 Aha! The 'glory of the God of Israel' was/stood there [at the
entrance] like the 'vision'/manifestation that I saw in the plain.
E106/9 this is an inserted verse [see 9:3]
The craft is obscured by a brightness of different intensity to that
called 'the glory of Yahweh'.
Ezekiel calls it The 'glory of the God of Israel' . Through this
'glory', Ezekiel discerns it is the same type of craft as in E1&2.
As in Encounter 2, the undercarriage isn't mentioned. Either its not
there, or appears exactly as in earlier encounters.
Ezekiel does not mention anyone as being actually in this craft at this time.
8:16-18 Ezekiel is shown scenes of idolatry including sun worshippers
facing east, setting their backs to the Temple.
Br 128,418 Like Solomon's temple [see Kings 8: 12], it is oriented so
the rays of the rising equinoctial sun
penetrate the open doors of porch, passing through the holy place to
shine at its back.
This provides:
[1] a practical way to date crucial spring & fall festivals and/or
[2] a symbolic or 'cargo 'cult' re-enactment of past entries of the
glory of Yahweh into sanctuaries along sacred alignments.
E3 is partly about stopping the City Temple's alignments being used by
anyone [eg rebel] priesthoods
outside the control of the visitors.
In fact, Brownlee proposes [128,131, 136-9] that the events occur at
night, prior to the Civil New Year Day sunrise at the autumn equinox.
[Civic New Year = month 7 Tishri Sept/Oct [see Taurids]adopted in
Exile]. [also see 10:12, Enc4 43:1-5]
300 ?413/14 The glory is said to be present/ set in the Exile in
opposition to the Samaritans who said the glory is theirs or why would the Temple have been destroyed? The Divine Presence remained after the Roman destruction of the Temple.
