SOMETHING OF USE #2: (3/28/00)

Want to go to Las Vegas! Think the single empty nester can't afford it! Well, think again!!

I just got back from going, again! The total cost, without gambling $ considered of course, was under $500 for a weekend (if you go during the week it's even cheaper). That included transportation from my home to the airport ($32 round trip), airfare from Atlanta Georgia to Las Vegas Nevada ($227--and I could have done better), free transportation to the car rental from the airport and back when I was ready to leave for the airport (lots of hotels have this service and sometimes charge one or both ways $6 to $12), a weekend car from Alamo (Grand AM--join up for Quick'Silver and you won't have to wait in long lines) for $65 with unlimited mileage (tip--put the gas back yourself, don't let them add it to the bill in advance (my gas was $5)----you could use the free public transportation shuttles or pay for cabs), a weekend at the Rio Hotel/Casino ($137.60--and they really have only suites which includes free refrigerator, free coffeemaker with daily coffee/supplies, free iron/ ironing board, free hairdryer, free soaps/shampoo and lotion, free in-room safe (lots of hotels have the in-room safes but charge you per day when you use it or charge every time you access the safe), free parade show daily, free players card (and you getup to $100 back if you use the card for 30 minutes within the first 24 hours of getting the card--this $ is mailed back to you in the form of a $ voucher to be cashed in anytime during the next 6 months----you don't have to be staying there to get the players card, just ask for it), you get points for free items everytime you use your players card, you get 25% discount off of gifts purchased with the RIO logo by showing your players card, my food cost was $27, and so on and so forth. I could go on and on. I only mentioned the name of the hotel because it offered so much and the car rental becasue of the QuickSilver (no lines to wait in). You can work out your own deal for airfare and other ground transportation (this happens to be geographical with the $ amount).

So, let's see---$32 + $227 + $65 + $5 + $137.60 + $27 = $493.60 - $100 voucher (coming by mail) = $393.60 my actual cost will be. Now, I did spend $ on gifts (bought with my 25% discount at RIO). I did gamble. You need to set a limit for this items and stick to it, if you want to gamble and buy gifts.

I'm going back in April. Bally's is treating me for my birthday. I'm not going to rent a car this time; I want to compare the available transportation systems.

I hope this information was helpful. You can e-mail me with your responses and questions. I will be going a few more times this year to Vegas. If you need me to find out something that I don't already know, I'll find out then (April, May, June, and October). Next year I'll be going to Italy plus Vegas a few times (my birthday and in the fall).
