Flame & The Rainy-eyed Girl

Flame & The Rainy-Eyed Girl
Walking The Edge of Earthquakes

...& the dark skinned girl with rainy eyes sayin’,
"I will be busted one day and so will you & then there’ll be some who understands what we did & some who just be goin’ more deeply blind-pour me a drink & blow them trumpets!-& at that time them ghosts will dance with open eyes (& I don’t care who knows it!) & all them doors gonna open & close within & without & they’ll be celebratin’ the uncarved stone! That’s right! With the altar raised up! & there’ll be rain & roses & wedding moons with bells & lightning in the soft earth-yeah buddy!
-& on a night when no one hitch hikes...when the church’s door is locked against thieves...the weepin’ lover with smilin’ eyes will return to sing the heart of his Beloved; to astound & expose the haughty concubine & that pimpin’ stealin’ double dealin’ handsome ole King of the devils & then the answer will come to that question we been always askin’ & we won’t be able to shake it free this time but we’ll bow our heads to all that is humble, to loose our shame & set free our vagrant desires...And where will it leave us? BUSTED! Where the neon highway smokes & groans with collapsing bridges & broken bones..."

"Who gonna bust YOU?" asked Flame, growin’ mad with envy.

-In the room across the hall we can hear happy sailors singin’ a round
of "What is known is shown but we still can’t see...doo wopp...dooo wopp...

"Gonna get you too Flame!" she say.

"What’s it matter?" asked Flame, "Sometimes yer in, sometimes yer out.Right?"

"It matters which side of the door you be on in the sweeptug washby blow of the hurricane now don’t it?"

"Well who’s gonna throw our bail?" asked Flame, "We are ALL lost... outlaws...outcasts...nomads on this road of blood & sunlight...& anyway I didn’t ask for no gravedigger, send me an angel, Angel..."

& the rainy-eyed girl shot back in a voice as melodious as a dawn starling, "Your bright sun casts dark shadows man-but remember this &
don’t you fergit it-ain’t no one’s EVER burried eternity..."
