This award honors the dedication and commitment of Dr. Morgan, Ron S. Theiss, Ron Van Arsdale, and George E. Kampschaefer Jr. to education and welding career advancement.
Purpose
The purpose of these scholarships are to provide financial assistance to those individuals interested in pursuing a welding or welding-related career. The scholarships are available to the recipient to use as needed over his/her course of study.
Eligibility
The Dr. Daryle W. Morgan and other Scholarships will be awarded in two categories. The first will be awarded to an undergraduate student pursuing a minimum four year bachelor’s degree in a welding or welding related program at an accredited university. The second will be awarded to a student pursuing a certificate or two year associate degree in a welding or welding related program at an accredited junior college, technical college or trade school. All applicants must meet the following requirements:
Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age as of August 1 of the year the scholarship is awarded.
Applicant must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED in the year the scholarship is awarded.
Applicant must have a 2.5 overall GPA.
Applicant must provide a 200 word essay explaining how the scholarship would benefit his/her career goals.
Applicant must be accepted at his/her chosen school.
Applicant must submit all required application information.
Application deadline is April 1. Scholarships will be awarded in May, with funds available for the following fall term.
Applicant does not have to be an American Welding Society member.
Selection
Applicant will be chosen by the Houston Section Scholarship Committee. Selection committee will determine award recipient(s) in May of each year.
Awards
There is no minimum or maximum of number scholarship awards given in any year. A $1000.00 award will go to the four year recipient(s) and a $500.00 award will go to the two year or technical school recipient(s).
No awards will be paid directly to the recipient. All awards are for tuition and books and will be paid directly to the academic institution by the Houston Section.
