Humane Education is Indispensable!
The Humane Society for Tacoma-Pierce County Washington is "eliminating" humane education while other humane groups across America are stressing the importance of education.
As a person who cares about kindness to animals and people I strongly urge you keep the established humane education program. Eliminating education is taking a step backward in the humane field. It is a mistake.
Isn't it most important for the humane society to help eliminate violence and neglect of animals and humans by the continued teaching of kindness?
Today it is a well-known fact that animal abuse often leads to abuse of children and other people. Bob Walter who has been the Education Director over 25 years has taught these facts for 20 years.
Teaching kindness is one of the largest weapons against abuse and violence. Over 100 years ago the humane society was established because some kind people wanted to prevent child abuse.
The Humane Society for Tacoma-Pierce County was the first humane shelter in Washington State to
have an Education Department. It was ahead of its time then.
Please don't let it become the first shelter in the state to turn its back on education.
"Safe Humane Chicago" a report dated September 2007 is "A Campaign to Stop the Violence for Our Children and Companion Animals." The report emphasizes that, "Education of children is the key" to building a safe and humane society.
Insist that Tacoma-Pierce County humane shelter continues its humane education program, and promotes education to the public!
