Dheeraj R Kamalam,MD is an Anesthesiologist, Interventional Pain specialist and Critical Care Intensivist who is practising in Guam, USA.He did his Anesthesiology residency training at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY-10029,after completing a two year residency in Surgery in Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York -11219.
Subsequently he completed his Fellowship in Pain Management at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine,which has an excellent pain fellowship program giving training in organizing and managing a full fledged acute and chronic pain service and giving training in all categories of interventions,nerve blocks, sympathetic and neurolytic blocks for pain control.He has trained in caudal epidurolysis with Racz catheter,different ganglion blocks,Radio frequency lesioning of facet nerves,ganglion impar, in addition to placement of implantable devices like permanent epidural catheters, Intrathecal Arrow and Medtronics pumps and dorsal column stimulators.He presented the abstract on "Radiofrequency ablation of ganglion impar for intractable coccydynia" in the IARS congress in San Diego, CA from March 16 to 20th 2002.
He later completed Critical Care Medicine (ICU) fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine,NY,NY on June 2002.
His wife is Ashalatha K Nair,MD an Anesthesiologist who did her anesthesiology residency training in Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY and subsequently did Fellowship training in Obstetric Anesthesiology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine ,NY, NY.She is now an assistant professor of Anesthesiology at Elmhurst Hospital Center,Queens, NY affiliated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine, NY,NY.
Dheeraj's eldest son, Aashiq Dheeraj is a tenth grader in Great Neck South HS, NY and his younger son Ajay Dheeraj is a third grader . They lived in Guam, USA which is a tropical island in the western Pacific.( www.visitguamusa.org)

He completed his medical school in Government Medical college, Trivandrum,Kerala ,India and obtained MBBS degree from University of Kerala in 1987. Afterwards he did one year post graduation in Orthopedics (D Ortho) in Medical college , Trivandrum. Subsequently he did residency in General Surgery at the Government Medical college ,Kottayam, Kerala,India and got board certified to obtain the MS (General Surgery) degree in 1992 from the Mahatma Gandhi University,Kottayam,Kerala,India.He went on to do sub speciality Fellowship training in Urology from Medical college, Kottayam, Kerala, India . He got board certified in Urology and obtained MCh (Urology) degree from the Mahatma Gandhi University , Kottayam, Kerala,India in 1995.In 1995 he moved to the US and started residency training in Surgery at the Maimonides Medical center , Brooklyn, New York,USA. After obtaining the preliminary diploma in Surgery in 1997, he joined the residency progranm at Mount Sinai-NYU school of Medicine in Manhattan, NY,NY and trained to become an Anesthesiologist.He subsequently did ACGME accredited Fellowships in Interventional Pain specialist and Critical Care Medicine from the Mount Sinai medical center, NY,NY.(see web site link).
ASHALATHA NAIR:
Dheeraj's wife Asha did her medical school in India at Medical college, Kottayam,Kerala,India.She had training in upper GI endoscopy in India and did training in ENT and anesthesiology before moving to the United states.In US she did residency training in Anesthesiology at Maimonides medical center,Brooklyn, New york -11219 and went on to complete Fellowship training in Obstetric anesthesiology at the Mount Sinai school of medicine ,NY,NY 10029.She is interested in anesthesia research also and has presented abstracts in International conferences including at the Society of Obstetric anesthesiologists conference in Sandiego ,CA in 2001.
