Cheats:
Covenant Got You Down?

The following are cheats discovered by gamers like you and collected by our partners at XboxCheats.com. You’ll find a rating on many of the cheats given by visitors to XboxCheats.com on a scale of 1 to 5. Xbox.com cannot vouch for the accuracy of this information, but we list it here in the hopes that it will help make your gaming as fun as it can be.

Is the Covenant getting you down? One of these hints or cheats might give you the upper hand.

Glitch: Floating Plasma Grenade
In Assault on the Control Room, when you get to the first lift (elevator thing), stand behind the sign that says Press X to Activate. Lift and throw a plasma grenade into the center of the lift. The lift will go down, but the grenade will float in front of you. The grenade will harm you, so if you have low health, you will die after it explodes.

First Bridges in Assault
This extremely cool trick to get down the first bridges in Assault on the Control Room. If this is done correctly, then there will be no more enemies left in the game.

Here's how to do it. Start the level Assault on the Control Room in cooperative mode. Get to the part were Cortana starts talking about the weather patterns, and there will be two bridges. First, kill the sleeping Grunts with a melee attack. Look to the left side of the bridge; if you look over the side, you will notice that the rock wall has a ledge on it. Next, go to the left of the door. Stand against the wall facing the edge of the bridge. Then run forward and jump over the edge and land on the rock wall ledge. Have the other player do the same. If you lose any health in the fall, kill each over so that you respawn with full health. One person stays right there and the other person goes up a bit forward, not too far. Next, the guy who didn't move has to fall off the ledge. When he starts to fall, the other guy has to start running forward on the ledge. At the end of the ledge is a little hill; keep running straight. The guy who fell should die right as the other guy is running up and off the little hill. When you start to fall, keep the joystick pushed forward as if you were running. 2.5 second before you hit, push the stick to the left. This is the most important part! If you did it right, you should slide of the white ledge without dying and die on the ground below. The cool part is that your partner will immediately respawn as you slide off. Now it gets easy. Wait for the other guy to respawn. Then, facing the people on the ground below, turn right and go along the white ledge until you see that the edge of the ground goes down and then up and it forms a divot. Stand in the divot and go off really slowly. After you start to fall, fuci back and hug up against the cliff side. You’re aiming for a white bump at the bottom of the hill. If you do everything right, then you should live through the final drop. Have the other guy fall because he'll respawn.

There you go. Now the entire level will have no more enemies. Have fun!

Also, if you do this trick fast enough, you can actually enter the Pelican (dropship) on the ground as it's taking off. That a heck of a ride!
Rating: 4.67 with 6 votes.

Faster Completion of Level 2
On level 2, you can complete it faster by killing every group of surviving marines. Cortana will say that there are no survivors. Contact echo 419 and tell her, and then Cortana will say to go search for the next lifeboat. So, the faster you kill the faster it goes.

Glitch: Ghost Driver in Warthog
At the beginning movie of the first level when the captain is talking to the line of men as he walks up the ramp, look at the warthog that drives by ... it has no one in it.
Rating: 4 with 1 vote.

Skip half of Assault on the Control Room
Complete the level until you can acquire the scorpion tank. Get the tank and destroy all the enemies in the general area. Then go to the downed pelican dropship and acquire the rocket launcher. After you acquire the rocket launcher, instead of going through the cave go to the left side passage, look up—you will see a balcony. Now put those rockets to use; shoot a few rockets roughly around the center of the platform, sometimes a little to the right will help greatly. If you have done it right, a Banshee should fall off; you can either go and get it or go and get the tank to destroy the enemies. (I suggest the tank as it can't be destroyed like the Banshee.) After the enemies are eliminated, go through the tunnel that exits that area. (If you used the tank, go and get the Banshee.) Park the Banshee so it doesn't get hit. Eliminate all enemies in the area, then keep moving on to the next area. There will be a lot of enemies after you get the cut-scene; destroy all of them and then proceed out of the cave.

You will encounter a covenant dropship. Do not engage enemies; instead, fly high enough so that they can't hit you. Then fly over the rest of the level until you get to the two bridges over the battlefield, fly up to the bridges, go to the one farthest away (if you're coming in) and go through the door on the right. There will be no more enemy resistance for the rest of the level.

Hint: Defeating Hunters
Normally Hunters are the hardest Covenant to kill, due to their powerful armor and shields. However, even the strongest armor has weak spots. If you look at their necks or backs, you can see an orange spot. Aim for it. One shot with any gun will kill them if you hit them there.

The best way to kill a hunter is to use a sniper rifle to zoom in on the orange spot.

If you are being chased by a Hunter or an alien with a sword, run backward while facing the alien. Jump when it tries to slash you. Throw a plasma grenade at the alien, and it will stick to him. Turn around and run in a zig-zag pattern to make sure he does not catch you in the explosion.

If you are playing cooperative multiplayer mode, have player two run in front of the Hunter until his back is turned to player one. While the Hunter is trying to turn player two into mush, have player one run up to the Hunter's back and melee attack the orange spot. The Hunter should die with one hit.

You can kill the Hunters in a head-on assault. Get in close and use the pistol or shotgun. Aim for the head holding down the trigger. Your first shot(s) will knock back the head, exposing the unarmored neck. One shot in the neck and they will die.

Flood as Pets
Have you ever wanted a pet flood? All you have to do is shoot off the arms (both of them) of a flood and he will follow you where ever you want to go. He won't hurt you, and they’re actually kinda cute when they’re helpless. Also, if he makes you mad, he's disposable because there will be more.

Strategy:
Weapon Strategy Guide

A good soldier knows his weapons—and the weapons that might be used against him. Here’s our breakdown of the Halo®: Combat Evolved weaponry along with tips for maximum effectiveness.

The M6D Pistol.

Human Weapons List

Pistol
While the Pistol doesn’t have a great deal of fire power, in the hands of a skilled player, the zoom function allows you to score deadly head shots (especially in multiplayer death matches.)

The MA5B Assault Rifle.

Assault Rifle
The Assault Rifle is a great all-around weapon that’s effective against Covenant enemies and Flood spores. Not recommended against Flood Elites or Flood Humans.

The M90 Shotgun.

Shotgun
This weapon is the best defense against Flood Elites and Humans. The Shotgun can spell a quick death in multiplayer death matches. One up-close shot usually eliminates a foe’s energy shield, while the next will put him down.

Sniper Rifle
The Sniper Rifle is a great weapon to have if you want to scout out an area. It’s great for all Covenant enemies, but it’s very ineffective against Flood Elites and Flood Humans.

The M 19 SSM Rocket Launcher.

Rocket Launcher
The Rocket Launcher is the most powerful weapon you can carry. Be careful when using this weapon in tight quarters—the explosion of a Rocket Launcher round can damage or even kill you.

The M41 LAAG.

M41 LAAG
The M41 LAAG, or Warthog chain gun, has unlimited ammo—which means unlimited fun in mowing down anything of the enemy-variety that gets in your way. In multiplayer combat, though, you’re a sitting duck for a grenade or rocket launcher attack, since the attached gun won’t allow you to run around freely on the ground.

The M9 HE-DP Grenade.

M9 HE-DP Grenade (Frag Grenade)
There aren’t any special features about this weapon. Simply aim and throw. This type of grenade explodes a couple of seconds after landing. You can bank grenades off a wall to reach targets around a corner, but make sure you do it carefully—if your explosives rebound back towards you, it could end your tour of duty quickly.

The Plasma Pistol.

Covenant Weapons List

Plasma Pistol
The Plasma Pistol is a popular weapon among Grunts. Hold down the fire button to charge a shot. Then, release it to unleash a shot that temporarily stuns and slows opponents. In multiplayer combat, use the stun-charge to slow down an opponent for a nasty Melee Attack. There is no ammo for the Plasma Pistol; just discard the old one, and pick up a new one off corpses of your fallen foes.

The Plasma Rifle.

Plasma Rifle
Favored by Elites, this weapon is capable of semiautomatic or fully automatic fire by holding down the fire button. Be careful not to overheat the gun while firing in automatic mode. As with the Plasma Pistol, discard the used-up weapon for a new one.

The Needler.

Needler
The rounds that fire from this weapon travel slowly, but seek out your opponent … even around corners. Needle explosions are small, but if enough find your foe, the cumulative effect can be lethal.

The Plasma Grenade.

Plasma Grenade
This hand-delivered explosive is similar to the Frag Grenade, save for one special feature: It adheres to any surface it contacts—namely your enemy. Don’t run over a live Plasma Grenade cooking on the ground; it will stick to you like steaming dog poo, with even more gruesome results.

The Stationary Gun.

Stationary Gun (Shade)
You’ll commonly find Grunts operating this fixed gun around heavily protected areas of interest. Take out the gun’s operator and jump into the cockpit to turn on the fun. The firing rate of the Shade is not very fast, so you’d be well advised to use it only on enemy ground infantry and not on airborne targets. But, as with the M41 LAAG, you’re a sitting duck for a grenade or rocket attack while in the hot seat.

Other Covenant Weapons: Look, But Don’t Touch
The following weapons can’t be picked up and used once you kill the enemy holding the weapon. Ah, what a shame …

The Plasma Sword.

Plasma Sword
An extremely deadly weapon to go up against, the Plasma Sword can only be used by Gold or Active Camouflaged Elites. Even on the tame Normal mode, you can be taken down in just two swipes of the blade. The sword runs off the life source of the Elite equipping it. When the Elite dies, the Plasma Sword dies with it as well.

Fuel Rod Gun.

Fuel Rod Gun
With this weapon equipped, a Grunt’s firepower becomes equal to a Hunter’s. Grunts will carry these weapons in the last couple of levels. If you kill the Grunt, the gun takes one last shot at killing you by exploding with the force of a grenade a few seconds later. That’s certainly a nasty surprise for newbies eager to grab it and give it a go.
