Windy Austin,to describe such a man with mere words is a difficult task to say the least. If it were easy, I probably wouldn't bother. Some have described him as a mix of Robin Williams,Cheech Marin, and Harpo Marx. Others have even compared him to Lenny Bruce.I tend to agree with all of those comparisons, but let me add that he is also one hell of a vocalist. To say that a Windy Austin show is funny,is like saying that it's warm in Phoenix in the summer.

I also received a video tape from Windy that hadn't been edited yet, therefore it wouldn't be fair to tell you the content as it may change.I will tell you that when it is released you had better get it.It has some footage of Windy in the 70's when he was frontman for Zorro and the Blue Footballs.Zany funloving musicians that worried as much about the visual part of the act as the musical part. There were various musicians that were in the lineup backing Windy in those days. All the shows were hot, lewd, foulmouthed, and extremely funny. They played to packed houses where ever they went.I'll keep you posted and pass on the word as to the release of this gem.

Windy & The Hot House Tomato Boys also have a CD in the works,it will be called "Alive At Last".I received a copy that also hadn't had a final edit, but what I heard was a kick-ass production.Hopefully when the CD is complete we will get a copy to give you our track by track in depth review. We'll keep you posted so check back often.

Three of the songs off "Romeo's Last Go Around" appear in the soundtrack for the movie "Rancho Cucamonga".In all there are eight songs in the soundtrack that are written by Windy and David McKnight.

"Romeo's Last Go Around" is a "post deluvian alternative blues operetta(from the Boston Islands).
The year is 2052 AD,due to the third world nuclear wars and general global warming, portions of the ice caps have melted resulting in massive flooding and rising of the sea level.Mexico is now the most powerful nation.Mexico City, being the capital of the Americas,is not only the richest city in the world, but is also the place where dreams come true. The economy of this world is based on the salvage of antiquities of a time gone by...gambling on sporting events...and the procurement of alternate
reality substances. The Boston Islands, which were once majestic peaks of the Ozark Mountain range, lie nestled in the solitude of the Amerind Sea between the coasts of Missouri and Texmexarkana.
The weather is hot, foggy, smoggy and humid...
Those who chose to ignore history are doomed to repeat it...
But...
No matter how hard times get, people are gonna want to dance...
and fish...
Thus begin the thirteen song operetta "Romeo's Last Go Around"(Based on a recurring dream shared by the Cherokee and the Chocktaw peoples, the operetta, though apocalyptic in nature, stresses a need for enviromental awareness).
Windy Austin reminds us that "Currently the Boston Mountains are the highest peaks in the Ozark Mountain Range. Please respect and protect Mother Earth!"

Great uptempo country sound,Marty Robbins style.Tim plays a mean ass squeeze box. There is also a neat little riff the bass does in the chorus. The lyrics are wicked funny, and the vocals have an excellent harmony.Good party music with a danceable beat. The ending of the song has a pleasant surprise.(A++)

TRACK 3

Black Bottle

This has a funky beat with some neat vocal effects. It's amazing that the final product from over-dubbing
came out this clean and tight.Their are some examplary lead licks,as well as some robust percussion.Th lyrics are striking and well written. (A++)

TRACK 5

There are some nice augmented guitar riffs, along with a solid bass line bouncing off an impelling drum beat.Well articulated lyrics volley through some blazing rollicking rock 'n roll euphony.Loved the way the lead guitars swapped off rifleing licks.(A++)

Accordian-Tim Alexander

Guitar-Tom Payton/Bob Meyer/Paul Hughes

Bass-Joe Ellis

Tenor Sax-Mike Mohney

There are some truly unique intros on this CD.This one kicks off with a Salvation Army band sound. Then the band goes into a swaying romantic melody, which has echoes of the zanyness of the Dr. Hook shows. This is a very eloquent production that has million seller written all over it.LOVED IT!!!(A+++)

TRACK 7

Romeo's Last Go Around

Vocals-Windy Austin/Chris Payton/Cherry Brooks/Tom Payton/Steve Ward

Piano-Tim Alexander

Guitar-Charles Tuberville/Paul Hughes

Here's a tune that screams out for some serious radio
airplay. This one is destined to become a classic. The harmonies are unbelieveable,Windy's lead vocals are impeccable. The whole production is so well mixed and tight it leaves me in awe, this is one hell of a nice song.(A+++)

TRACK 8

Wake Up People

This song is Clapton meets ZZTop if you can picture that. Some great guitar riffs built off a solid rhythm section. The vocals are great with some nice harmonies, and the lyrics carry a powerful message. (A++)

TRACK 9

She Cut Me Off

Vocals-Windy Austin

Guitar-Charles Tuberville/Paul Hughes

Bass-Joe Ellis

Drums-Damon Daniel

This song is well done, but leaned towards the poppy side.Lacked the drive that earlier songs had,and it didn't have a hook. The weakest song on the CD.(B)

TRACK 10

Who Killed Davey Moore

Vocals-Windy Austin/Cherry Brooks

Synthesizer/Percussion-Damon Daniel

Contra Bass-Joe Ellis

This song was penned by Bob Dylan, and is done in a very original style.Use of the contra bass and the synthesizer give it a very intriguing depth. The vocals are ace in your face.(A+)

TRACK 11

Texas Bitch

Vocals-Windy Austin

Guitar-Charles Tuberville/Bob Meyer

Bass-Joe Ellis

Drums-Damon Daniel

This one has to get them hootin' and hollerin' at the local waterin' hole.Classic country style with comical Windy Austin lyrics,a little nasty and a lot of fun.I'm sure some of them college radio stations are going to give this one some air play.(A++++)

TRACK 12

Daniel DeAllegro

Accordian-Tim Alexander

Bass/Bajo Sexto-Max Bace

Drums-Ernie Durawa

Percussion-Windy Austin

I tried to find a way to tell you about this one. What I came up with is,Zydeco with a Caribbean mix.Excellent percussion and Tim's squeeze-box must have been smokin'.We need more tunes like this one to get us up and dancing.(A+++)

My overall impression is:

This is a unique CD with some very comical lyrics thrown in.Some great party tunes with some laid back
material tossed in for flavor. So it's the CD to take with you no matter what's on the agenda. You're going
to have to search high and low,far and wide,to find musicians half as hot as the Hot House Tomato Boys.A vocalist and entertainer such as Windy Austin is also a seldom found surprise. So hook up with Windy at the address down below and tell him you read about the new CD at Downeast Reviews.Who knows,he may even send you an autographed copy if you order a CD.Even if it isn't autographed you won't be sorry you got it,because I know I treasure my copy.Where forth art
thou Romeo? He must be having his last go around. But with who? Let it be you!!!!(A+++)

So until next time, keep your eyes on the road, your ears on the tunes, and keep in touch with us.....Donna
