"the blues told us"

When you listen to this album you're going to think that this has to be an old classic blues recording. This is blues in its finest, truest sense. The way the blues began, sung by an artist who has had the blues and is telling you the true to life emotions.Dave Marshall lost his wife,Adele,to acute leukemia. That is to whom he has dedicated this album.
Dave Marshall's vocals are very much like Joe Cocker,
with great emotion and the gravely richness. He is a master harmonica player, wailing out the blues with a powerful set of lungs.Dave has a fine group of musicians backing him up in this great album. The tunes range from heart-wrenching,tear-jerkers,to the get-down boogie,I gotta dance tunes.Dave Marshall and the Mojo Band are the Blues band you've been looking for since you sold your classic LP's.So pick up your copy at our "Buy the CD's" page.

Tom Donovan-Bass/Backup vocals

Dave Beaver-Drums/Percussion/Backup vocals

TRACK 1

Alone Again

D.C.-Starts out with some fantastic blues mouth harp. Then it turns into a swing blues hoppin' tune. The bass does a great job keeping the tune rockin',and we get some hot licks in the lead solo.Dave's gravely vocals fit this genre perfectly.Catchy tune!!(A++)

TRACK 2

The Blues Told Us

D.C.-The tempo is slowed down in this title track.Tom has the bass blues chops mastered.Beaver plays a nice tight kit, accentuating only when needed never overplaying.Eric plays the solo with the blues-master
touch(heart 'n soul). There is also some great harmonica in this laid-back tune.So kick up your feet and groove on this number.(A++)

TRACK 3

Adele's Shuffle

D.C.-The harmonica in the intro brought Magic Dick from J.Geil to mind. This is a nice rockin' number with some good guitar, along with the fantastic rhythm section. The lyrics are well written and Dave does a great job on the vocals.(A)

TRACK 4

My Cup Is Nearly Empty

D.C.-This song brings a welcome change with the slide guitar work. This is true Delta-blues music played the way that genre of music should be played,Raw!I wish there were more artists playing blues this way,it is becoming a lost art.Truely fantastic and what a blues fan will treasure.Buy the album if only for this tune.(A+++)

TRACK 5

Bar Room Blues

D.C.-This tune has just Dave and his harmonica at first. Then a bit of slide guitar is added for color and it's a super piece of work. The harmonica and slide playing off one another mesmerizes the listener.(A++)

TRACK 6

Nightsong

D.C.-The bass opens up the tune with a classic blues run. This tune is "Rocky Mountain Way"(Joe Walsh) with different lyrics,an original lead solo, and a few original variations.I guess what I'm trying to say,is that if you like "R.M.W" you'll love this tune!(A++)

TRACK 7

Misty Water

D.C.-This one has a jazzy feel to it.The bass run is walking and the brush work on the drums is riveting.
There is also some nice guitar work and harmonica. This tune shows a lot of diversity in this bands repertoire.(A++)

TRACK 8

I Know A Little Blues

D.C.-This one has a Blues Brothers mode to it,with some great lyrics. The musicians are tight and hot in this number, but the highlight was the lyrics for me.
I think this tune would be a fantastic party tune. The only thing that is lacking in this number is length, it runs a bit short.(A)

TRACK 9

Werewolf Blues

D.C.-This tune opens with some Hendrix-esque guitar, with some great augmented chordal structure.I felt that the guitar held the tune together, being the main focus in the song. The vocals were very emotional and powerful. This tune ran a bit long, which could keep it from getting much air-play.(B)

TRACK 10

Fire!

D.C.-This tune has some funky and well appreciated tone to the guitar. There is also some additional vocals that was a nice surprise. The bass run is superb as well as the percussion in this tune.Again the guitar is the outstanding effect in this tune, not at all a bad thing. This one also runs long, but has such a full captivating sound warranting the length.
(A++½)

TRACK 11

My Soul Is Cryin'

D.C.-The harmonica returns in this tune augmented with some nice rhythm guitar work. The tempo is mellowed out, cryin' out for some streaming lead breaks. The tune is reminiscent of early ZZ Top i.e. "Blue Jean Blues".What I consider the best of the early Texas Blues.(A+)

TRACK 12

Until I See You

D.C.-This one is back to the swing style, and a tune that will have you up and dancin'.This one really gives you the full spectrum of the talent of the musicians,as they have their solos. The rhythm section really excelled in this tune.(A++)

TRACK 13

Late To Work Blues

D.C.-This tune has a different style to it,very original. The drummer playing rim style alternatingly gives the song alot of its uniqueness. An excellent closing tune leaving you contemplating all that you've just experienced.Well arranged and tight.(A++)

Donna's Overall Impression:

I found this album to have many qualities that will appeal to many people. It will foremost appeal to the true-blue Blues fan.To those who are new to the Blues genre it will give them a taste of the classic as well as some original blues. Some of the songs ran a little long which could hurt possible air-play,but for the people who purchase the album they will get over one hour of great blues music. The musicians are talented and tight throughout the album.I feel that Dave Marshall and the Mojo Band have put out an album that people will treasure for many years, and they should certainly be proud of this accomplishment.I will enjoy listening to this album in years to come, but I will anxiously await the next album.Get your copy today by going to Dave's website,or by going to our "Buy the CD's" page.

So until next time, keep your ears to the tunes, your eyes on the road, and keep in touch with us....Donna
