My name is Doug, and I was diagnosed with RRMS in June of 2005.
In theory, the MS drugs are only going to slow down the progression of MS, not help existing problems. However, some folks on these drugs do see improvements in symptoms--but, unfortunately, everyone is different. I tried Rebif for two months after my diagnosis, but the side effects were worse than the MS, so I quit.
Since then, I've chosen the alternative route to treatment and am making slow but steady progress.
I changed my diet to a combination of the Gold Coast and Best Bet Diet. I added food supplements, weekly physical therapy, and heavy reliance on my faith in God. I started Glyconutrients in the beginning of October, 2005, and after two weeks my fatigue went from extreme to severe/moderate. Within a month, I went from being in a wheelchair (where I spent five months from May through the middle of October) to walking with crutches. Now, on good days, I can walk around the house with one crutch or none at all. Outside the house, for limited periods, I'm able to use one crutch.
I still have all my MS symptoms, but I expect to knock the fatigue down to a manageable level and anticipate not needing any crutches. I attribute some of my recovery to the very nature of RRMS, but mostly I credit my success to the above alternatives. I've also chosen at this point not to take any MS medications.
I was one sick puppy last summer, and was not sure if I would ever get well. But now I'm confident I'm on the road to recovery. The healing just takes time and patience--and doing the right things.
