SOS!

SOS! The Marines are needed!

(Dedicated to FREEDOM, real freedom without walls or security guards)

Now that the Marines are being used to fight the problems of the world, it occurs to me of some other place where they are so badly needed.

The country I'm speaking about has the chilling record of 30,000 human beings killed by firearms each year. It is so dangerous that the streets are deserted, becoming no man's land. People live with so much fear that they refuse to talk to strangers. Shoot-outs break out among gangs in the middle of the street, taking bystanders' lives. Tourists must be careful to follow the map given at the airport, for fear of landing in the wrong neighborhood. Sharpshooters take aim on human targets. Disgruntled employees return to their workplaces to settle scores with bosses and fellow employees alike. It's so, but so bad that kids, raised on TV violence, take guns to school, taking innocent lives. Meanwhile the ratings feed on violence...

I was going to say what place I am talking about, but I'd better say goodbye because I see a stranger coming my way...

Meanwhile, in York, Pa., a Marine serving in a war zone in Iraq rushed back home to be with his pregnant wife Friday after she was wounded in an apparent random shooting in a supermarket parking lot.

Lance Cpl. Justin Cook, 23, was pulled from his combat unit in Fallujah on Nov. 15, and was told that his wife, Julia, 21, had been shot in the head. She is due to deliver the couple's son in February. Cpl. Cook said his mind raced at the news — "a whole whirlwind of emotions, from anger [to] fear."

The Marine was at his wife's bedside Friday in the York Hospital intensive care unit, where a nursing supervisor said Mrs. Cook was in serious condition.

Authorities said Mrs. Cook, while awaiting the birth of her son, was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She had been visiting high school friends Nov. 14 when someone opened fire with a shotgun, then drove away.

Noel Gomez, 19, arrested six hours later, told detectives he decided ahead of time about a location where he wanted to kill someone, according to his arrest affidavit.

SOS!
