F.A.Q.
Q. What is Reflexology?
A., We are electrical/energetic beings i.e. made up of cells based around electrical charges. As I personally discover when my static electricity is high and I get out of the car and a miniature lightning bolt streaks across between the car and my hand, ouch! that hurts.
Our entire environment is composed of the same stuff. If you can imagine that your body is like a house which has plumbing, electrics, lighting and heating. If one of the pipes break or cracks, this can cause flooding or even that the entire system be disrupted and fail. An electrical wire can break or fray causing a break in the circuit which could lead to the system blowing a fuse or even causing a fire and burning the house down.
The body works in a very similar manner, when a blood vessel fails we can get varicose veins or even a stroke or heart attack. If a nerve is damaged or breaks we can lose feeling in that area or even use of a limb. My point being that any dis-ease or malfunction of the body is always due to a imbalance or break in one or more body systems and seeing that all these systems are fundamentally of an electrical nature it stands to reason that if one was to ‘plug’ that body into a focused and directed source of the original, unlimited energy it is possible that with this new ‘charge’, the imbalanced body might be able to ‘jump start’ into a healing process.
So, you say, what has all this got to do with ‘’Reflexology’?
Everything, if you sit in a chair and look at your bare feet, hold them together and imagine that you are looking at a small replica of your body. Both big toes together represent the left and right halves of your head, face and neck. See, the nail area is the eye area and below is the mouth and neck. If you then follow the line at the base of the toes down to the smallest toe, that is the shoulder line. The four small toes are representative of the four quarters of the big toe of that foot and are used for fine tuning the head area. In between both big toes down to the heel you can easily imagine the spine, from neck to pelvis. Nearly all of the major organs are represented in the center area of both feet with the limbs on the outside edge.
So how does that help? When there is an imbalance in the body it will produce toxins, material and waste matter which are carried away by the blood stream, here is where it gets a bit strange, for some reason that ‘stuff’ is carried by gravity down to our lowest point, the feet and there these deposits settle and over a period of time can create anything from sensitivity to large nodules of solidified ‘stuff’. Here is the weird bit, the ‘stuff’ will settle exactly on the corresponding point on the foot map to where your imbalance is!
By exerting gentle pressure onto the reflex points i.e. the points on the foot which represent the different organs and areas of the body, sensitivity is reduced, nodules are gradually broken down and energy is focused on required area.
I have personally as a client and therapist observed many incidents of how this works. Treating a woman through her pregnancy, the unborn child would respond to my touching the womb reflex by kicking and after about six months of treatment she would actually recognize me and start jumping about as soon as she felt my energy through the foot.
There are examples to numerous to mention, of people feeling the actual organ or body part physically responding to the compression of the appropriate reflex. Headaches and pains disappearing, involuntary movement of limbs, contraction or relaxation of muscles and many people just ‘feel’ something in the particular area.
If you put your naked feet up to a mirror, you will see a representation of the general state of your internal body. In other words, if your feet are well kept and beautiful then generally so are you inside, if your feet are dry, calloused, cracked and swollen, then generally so are you inside.
Stands to reason the better you look after your feet, the better you will be inside!
Q. What are shin splints?
A., Unfortunately, the term shin splints is a pretty ambiguous one; it's defined by the American Medical Association as an inflammation of the muscle, tendon, OR bone in the lower part of the leg. In other words, the term shin splints doesn't refer to any one precise problem. When you tell someone you have shin splints, you might as well just say that the portion of your leg below the knee hurts; you're not really saying what exactly is hurt or how you can correct the impairment.
Frequently, lower-leg pain in athletes is transitory and responds well to simple treatments -rest, icing, relaxed stretching of the lower-leg muscles, antiinflammatory medications, and compression and elevation if there is swelling. Usually, the pain gradually subsides, and an athlete is able to resume training within a few days. In other cases, however, the leg pain doesn't diminish, or it may seem to disappear only to re-announce itself whenever significant amounts of training are attempted. These longer-lasting problems shouldn't automatically be assumed to be shin splints. In fact, they are usually a result of one of three conditions - a 'compartment syndrome,' chronic tendonitis, or a stress fracture. Each malady produces its own specific signs and symptoms, and the treatments for these three disorders can be quite different.
How to spot the difference
How can you tell if you have a stress fracture instead of a compartment syndrome? Ordinarily, the pain emanating from a stress fracture is quite different. Sometimes called 'crescendo pain,' stress-fracture pain tends to build up gradually as you exercise, beginning as an annoying irritation during the first few minutes of your workout and becoming a throbbing torment as you continue to train. There is usually little of the numbness, weakness, and swelling associated with compartment syndromes, and pain is usually not present when the athlete is at rest. Sometimes, there is a specific point of tenderness in the lower leg, often felt on the inside of the calf when deep pressure is applied with the fingers. Often, the bone will actually hurt when it is tapped near the damaged area, and occasionally a hard nodule will appear on the surface of the bone at the trouble site.

Q.How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
A., Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness,
and greater productivity which can last for days.
Q.Are there any restrictions to receiving a massage or bodywork?
A., Before you begin your session, the therapist will ask some general health questions. It is very important that you inform the therapist of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care for any medical condition, consult with him or her for any restrictions to receiving therapy.
Q.Must I be completely undressed to recieve a massage?
A., Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort.
Q.Will the therapist be present when I disrobe?
A., The therapist will leave the room while you undress, get onto the table as instructed and cover yourself with the clean towel or sheet provided. You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable, only the area being worked on will be exposed.
Q.What parts of my body will be massaged?
A.,You and your therapist will discuss the desired outcome of your session.
This will determine which parts of your body require massage or bodywork.
A typical full body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck and shoulders.
Q. What is Energy work or Reiki?
A. Energy therapies focus on the energy fields thought to exist in and around the body (biofields). They also encompass the use of external energy sources (electromagnetic fields) to influence health and healing. All energy therapies are based on a core belief in the existence of a universal life force or subtle energy that resides in and around the body. Practitioners of energy therapies typically place their hands on or near the body and use their energy to affect the energy field of the person.
Reiki is a technique of Japanese origin in which the practitioner channels energy through his hands and into the person's body to promote healing.
Therapeutic Touch: Often referred to as "laying on of hands" even though actual touch is not needed, this therapy uses the therapist's healing energy to identify and repair imbalances in a person's biofield.

Q.I have calloused painful feet, what can I do about it?
A. In general, the better the condition of the feet, the better the health of the individual. So I give my clients the
'7 day Challenge.' This is how I do it.
I bought a 'foot Spa' from the local supermarket, one that vibrates and bubbles etc. (cost. less than $20) At the end of my day I sit in my comfy chair and soak my feet for about 10 minutes,(I use a tiny drop of Tea Tree Moisturising body wash in it. Don't use too much or the room will fill up with Bubbles!!) after about 8 minutes 'finger test your feet'. Using your index finger, just gently run it around and over all the surface of your feet and you will easily pick up any rough or course areas. Leaving your feet in the water use a Pedi-Sander, I generally have some here or go to your local beauty supply shop, make sure you get a very fine (pedi-sander) foot file, using it very gently and only for five or so seconds in one spot, take the surface layer off the rough spots. I find its much better to take off a small amount on a daily basis than to scrub away and give yourself very sore and painful feet. So, after I have worked my way around my feet, which takes me about a minute.
I spend 2-3 minutes massaging each foot with a good moisturising body lotion.(very nice to get your Partner to do the massaging..you can also return the favour!!)After I have done this for 7 consecutive days they Look Better and I Feel Better!
Q.How do you always know where to find where it hurts and make it better?
A.It is a combination of:
'Reiki'- aura assesment and scanning which means looking for imbalance or inconsistancy in the energy field.
'Body mechanics and posture', looking for imbalance or inconsistancy in the posture and movement of the body.
'Intuition and Experience'- Feeling the mood, emotion, state, condition of the individual and translating that with the other information into an overall idea of the persons problems and condition.
