Mat (The HURRIKANE) Banke - Drums
With 20+ years of drumming under his belt, Mat spent most of his time playing in original bands with "Dixie Wrecked" guitarist Troy Thornton. "Troy and I go way back, having been in Foxx, Sly Foxx, & Stark Raving Mad" - dating back from the late 1980's. This also included stints as the drummer for the KUFO (Portland 101.1) sponsored band "Bill Prescott�s Chode", during the mid 90's, which lead to opening slots for Ratt and Queensryche - in addition to KUFO's ROCKFEST and 94.7's BIG STINK 4. Mat has also had the opportunity to open for the likes of Sammy Hagar, Judas Priest, Sebastian Bach, & Saigon Kick to name a few. In addition, Mat has played up and down the West Cost - playing such venues as the famed "Whiskey A Go Go" on the Sunset Strip in L.A., and the Off Ramp in Seattle WA. Both huge stepping stones to the Rock/Metal and Grunge scenes back in the day.
Over the past couple of year Mat has also been doing session work, as needed, for Sound Impressions in Portland, OR. Having recorded some demo's and album work by various local artists. You can go to Mat's web site (listed below and on the links page) to hear some examples. In addition, Mat is an avid photographer. "When I am not playing the drums or busy with the family you can usually find me out taking pictures". Examples of his work can also be found on his web site.

Mat uses Gretsch - Catalina Club Custom drums, TAMA Road Pro Series hardware, and uses an array of Sabian cymbals.

I am excited to be part of this band and look forward to playing some great music. What makes this exciting is that I am playing with some longtime friends - who also enjoy what they do. I have known Troy for what seems like forever (I like it, I like it). Troy and I go way back and have a great history of making original music. We have shared the road together along with many ups and downs through the years with the bands we have been a part of. It is a treat for me personally to be playing full time with my band-brother again.
Mick has been a long-time friend as well, considering we (SRM & BPC) used to rehearse in Mick's basement (Wet Basement Studios). Mick and his wife had been huge supporters of Stark Raving Mad and now it's time for me to return the favor.
And Dave, well Dave helped engineer and produce a demo of my very first band (Diver) recorded in 1988 at a small studio in Newberg Oregon called "Frankenstein's Lab". Dave is an outstanding musician and a great friend, one with whom I am honored to be playing with.
