PREFACE: This model socialist constitution is just that, a modest proposal, a *model*. Obviously, no one has any intention of challenging the current constitution or government. Rather, it is hoped that some of the most worthy aspects of this Model will be incorporated into whatever democracy-socialism constitution is eventually democratically, peacefully ratified by the American People as capitalism becomes incompetent and unworkable.
(See "THE END OF WORK" by Jeremy Rifkin; please note that Rifkin and this site are not associated and that Rifkin believes that capitalism can be salvaged, although this site predicts that capitalism cannot, and maintains that it should not, be salvaged).

WE, THE COLLECTIVE PEOPLE - the working, productive, and contributing strata of society, the creators of all material value and providers of all necessary, useful, enjoyable, and life-enhancing services, members of all races, national groups, and cultural backgrounds, and participants in diverse lifestyles,
excercising our democratic prerogative to alter the form of government in accordance with provision of the out-going constitution,
do hereby ratify and establish this Constitution in order to:
establish direct democracy and place the voters directly in controll of the large issues (amendments to the Constitution, use of military force and declarations of war, taxation, workplace legislation, economic decisions, etc.) through popular referendums at every level of government;
create governance by people's organizations (such as Conventions of People's Organizations, labor unions, and Tenants' Associations) along with aspects of representative democracy, at all levels of government, in the neighborhoods, and in most workplaces;
guarantee seats in each branch of government to all types of workers, professionals, and experts, and members of both genders and all races or ethnicities;
preserve and expand the rights, priveleges, and protections which are an integral part of our tradition; conserve the most democratic aspects of the original constitution and the original bill of rights;
expand the realm of tangible, meaningful personal liberties, political freedoms, all forms of direct and representative democracy, and small-scale private ownership of land and homes by working, productive, and other contributing individuals;
liberate the potential of the human personality and facilitate all-around personal development, by ending personal alienation in the act of work and in the workplace, and by multiplying leisure time through the perpetual development of technology and its use for the benefit of all;
guarantee equal and universal access to the basic physical, medical, educational, and cultural necessities and amenities of life;
establish socialist forms of ownership (cooperative ownership by workers of the majority of multi-dwelling residential units, large-scale workplaces, farms, ranches, restaurants, communications and media outlets, etc.) and public ownership of many of the major means of production by the most appropriate level of government);
establish attitudes of social harmony, awareness, and caring; and eliminate all significant manifestations of racism, sexism, xenophobia, and chauvanism in social, public, and political life;
establish personal and collective habits of autonomous public self-government, environmental-ecological awareness and habits of conservation;
refrain from unprovoked wars against other peoples and nations and violent subversion of foreign governments;
and promote, by peaceful assistance and example, the establishment and growth around the world of human, civil, and political rights, and of direct-democracy and populist forms of government, and of socialist-property relations in terms of large-scale property.
Furthermore, WE, THE COLLECTIVE PEOPLE, do hereby declare this Constitution to be the collective, concentrated legacy of Americans' democratic struggles against oppression and exploitation and their efforts to secure and expand personal and colletive rights;
which struggles include but are not limited to: the American Revolution, the Civil War and the Union's defeat of the confederacy, Native Americans' movements, workers' campaigns to secure workplace rights, guarantees of decent working conditions and safety, and the right to organize and to strike; and the domestic struggles for socialism and against anti-socialism.
WE, THE COLLECTIVE PEOPLE, do hereby acknowledge the righteousness of the struggles for socialism both here and abroad and in the past, present, and tfuture, and recognize the historical necessity and inevitability of the impulse of these struggles (while we acknowledge and regret the errors which ocurred in the course of these struggles);
and do hereby bequeath this Constitution to future generations (who will enjoy secure, enriched lives, and the full fruits of their labors in the absence of exploitation) in the nation which they will own, govern, and improve, and which we do hereby name
"The United States of America-
Populist Republic of Direct Democracy Socialism" and "USA-PRDDS".
