Monday May 29th
Today was an eventful day! I did my show at WMUH from 10:00 AM until Noon. I arrived home, took a nap, and by 5:00 PM I was at a private party in central New Jersey opening up for Pat DiNizio of The Smithereens!
At 8:00 PM, I was performing at The BMW Bar in New York City!
Later that night, at around midnight, I was participating in a jam at The Back Fence in New York City's Greenwich Village Section.
Eventful day/night!
Monday June 5, 2000
Well, It was nice having two shows on the same day again! (WMUH+WLVR). Over the weekend I found out that on Friday night, I had appeared on Howard Stern's "E" Network show! You know I made a big deal about that!
My next stop was in Reading, PA. I auditioned for a Reading area cable show called Acoustic Road Show. I passed the audition! I also stopped in at Casey's night club for their Monday night jam - didn't jam, just hung around!
Sunday June 18, 2000
Saturday was a busy day! I attended the Concourse De Elegance auto show in Bethlehem. I arrived there at 10:00 AM and stayed for about two hours. They had, among the many beautiful cars there, two rare and unusual cars that I've longed to see; The 1964 Chrysler with the turbine engine, and the 1948 Tucker!
I took my camcorder with me, along with my 3-D camera (that made me almost as popular as the Tucker!).
My next stop was at work. They were slow, so I went home and took a nap (charging my camcorder in the meantime).
I then drove into Kutztown for a jam at the Kutztown Parks' bandshell. First, I stopped in at Young One's record store and put two of my CD's on consignment. Then off to the jam! One of the other musicians was nice enough to videotape me as I played!
I met someone whom had contacted me at WDIY for airplay; Kalvin Christian. He's over here with his family. They're from California.
I was given his new CD, which I played on my show later that night. Busy day, eh?
Thursday June 21st, 2000
Just a quite note; I noticed a turtle in the middle of the road while I was driving down to New Hope. I pulled over and and saw that It wasn't harmed. I couldn't figure out why it was sitting in the middle of the road inside its' shell. It looked at me when I looked at it and it went back inside its' shell. I carefully picked up the little creature and put it in some grass along side the road. I then continued driving into New Hope to distribute my newspaper. I also went into Stroudsburg, later in the day. (no turtles there).
Tuesday June 27th, 2000
Well, I've been out and about again. On Sunday, I went into New Hope for a night of Women's Music at John And Peters. It definitely was eclectic, and I picked up some CD's for my radio show (Catherine Moon + Jenny Bray -see my playlists).
On Monday, I went into Kutztown and participated in the jam at Venue. They had just relocated to the downstairs part of the building. They were in desperate need of an answering machine. I met with the owner last night and gave them an extra one that I had!
Next up: I go to New York City on Thursday and participate in a jam at The BMW Bar. I have to go into the city to promote my upcoming gig at The Back Fence!
Friday July 7th, 2000
Yesterday - another busy day - In the morning I drove into Reading, PA. I distributed my Newspaper at a few stores. I did stop at a sidewalk fest - I gave my NICKEL newspaper to the performing duo there + asked them to send me a tape for my radio show. That made their day!
My next stop was back in Easton. I visited Karl Stirner, the artist I used to work for! He's doing well - still creating!
Next, I attended an art opening at Design Accent in Allentown, and then, off to WDIY to tape an interview with the band Wirth. I even made a copy of the interview for them that night!
When I arrived home, I thought about going to a jam in Stroudsburg. I decided, instead, to eat and catch up on the news. Full day, eh?
Friday July 14th, 2000
Monday; I did my shows at WMUH and WLVR. I stopped in at Godfried Daniels at 7:00 PM to attend WDIY's annual volunteer award night, (sorry friends, I didn't get anything this year). I then went into Kutztown to make it at the very last minute to be the last performer at the jam in Venue. I was greeted with a round of applause! I went over to Alexanders to leave copies of NICKEL. There was caution tape wrapped around the perimeter of the building and the siloughetes of two bodies were drawn near the front door. I was shocked! Nothing like that ever happens around there! I'll still keep this listed on my jams page - I'm sure they'll re-open area jams
Wednesday I stopped in at The Canal Street Pub in Reading (right after work), for their weekly jam. Many people were there anticipating my arrival!
I went over well! I invited the host, Butch Imhoff, to appear this Saturday night on my radio show, for an interview! He agreed to it! (yay!).
Tuesday July 18th, 2000
Well, as it turns out - the caution tape around Alexander’s was a hoax. The owners were on vacation for a week. (bad joke, whomever did that!).
My interview with Butch Imhoff went very well. I gave him a tape of it when we were through! I plan to be back in Reading sometime soon. In the meantime - I'm still not sure if I'm going to be bold enough to stop in at the Stern show again this week. I'm thinking about promoting my gig in New York City on the 23rd, but it's only a small gig,.... I don't know,...... (you never know with me,....).
Thursday July 20th, 2000
I kind of chickened out of going to New York City - they needed help at my day job. (oh well, ...). I did take time out during the day to tape an interview with Brendan O'Donnell at WDIY. The interview will be aired this Saturday night at 11:30. He is one great writer and singer!
Monday July 24th, 2000
I wasn't much in the way of talking today at WMUH. Last night, my two-hour set at The Back Fence in New York City, ran into five hours! My throat is a little hoarse, and I'm tired. I tracked a whole album by "Sir Millard Mulch", and not much else..... I did impress the owner of The Back Fence - he scheduled me for another gig on September 10th! I was even paid twice by the owner for filling in for the person whom was supposed to show up after me! (ain't I a sport?).
(Monday - continued)
Well, I've just finished my show at WGPA AM 1100! I played a lot of contemporary hits for two hours, and subbed in for the Polka show from 5:00 - 6:00 PM (really!).
I regret having to pre-empt my show at WLVR, but it's always great to add another commercial station to one's résumé'.
Friday July 28th, 2000
Yesterday was fun! I went to the Liberty Bell Shrine in Allentown. This is where the bell was hidden during the Revolutionary War. They let me ring the replica! I should have brought my camcorder!
Late last night, I brought an acoustic duo, Bigger Than Boise up to WDIY to tape an interview for my show. The interview will be aired Saturday night! After we finished taping, I invited them to record with me, a song, in the production studio. Cindy sang along with me on the Breeders' "Saints". I've just sent it in to an avid Breeders fan whom is collecting recordings for a Breeders tribute compilation!
Wish me(us) luck folks!
Friday August 4th, 2000
Can we call yesterday a 'full' day?; I left my home at 8:30 AM to go take care of business in southern New Jersey. I arrived back home at noon - ate lunch - went into Allentown to drop off tapes at two area clubs to book my friends' band "Tinseltown Rebellion" (A Frank Zappa Tribute band). I then dropped off MY video at my agent and then drove up to the Scranton area.
"The Bear" radio station asked me to show up as Howard Stern at a party. One of their listeners won a contest. Motley Crue played in their backyard! I walked in and received almost as much attention as the band!
Tuesday August 22nd, 2000
Yesterday was one of those days where I guess you could say that I was the happiest!
I was on the air at WMUH from 10 AM until noon, I then went to an all you can eat buffet. My next stop was my on-air shift at WLVR from 3 - 6 PM. After a brief stop at home, I then went to host the new open stage at The Sunday New Cafe in Phillipsburg! It was kind of fun! I was the only musician in attendance, but I had some interesting performances from some girls whom did their routines from a public speaking class. It was very entertaining!
I filled out the evening by stopping in at the jam Casey's Night Club in Allentown. I joined an acoustic guitarist on stage - I played some bass!(Pink Houses, Wild Horses, Rocky Raccoon)
Friday September 1st
Well, yesterday was definitely a full day! See if you can follow along,.....
I left home at 5:00 AM to be in the crowd at a live broadcast from NYC. LOURDS, a lady rocker whom I'm a fan of, was performing live on the sidewalk at the Fox News building in New York City!
Me: dressed up in my Howard Stern best, was walking around, The camera people were having bystanders modeling whatever they were wearing - yup! I went up, "and here's Howard Stern", said the lady announcer!
That was fun - I stopped at the WXRK studios in New York before I went home. I left some 8X10's for one of Howard Stern's producers. I took the elevator down, and realized I should also leave some business cards with my pictures.
I did that, and while I was waiting for the elevator, who should come out, but Geraldo Rivera!
He and his entourage flipped out at the sight of me. "Look, it's Howard's little brother". One of his assistants just had to have a picture of me with Geraldo! (I'll see if I can get a copy for the web page.).
One assistant said that I could be Howards' stunt double. Geraldo said "you're the one that takes the bullet, right?" (aawww, ooohh,..)
Back home again, I ate and then I took a lady artist friend of mine, Cindy Rodrigues, to the Venue art gallery in Kutztown. I introduced her to the curator and soon my artist friend will have a show there!
We then went into New York City and I played as a guest with Brian and Marcy at The BMW bar in NYC. We then went up to 57th St. and ate dinner at Planet Hollywood! That place is great!
Friday (continued)
I've just been informed by Sharlee And Todd, That a syndicated radio show, "Car Talk" (heard nationally on National Public Radio), used my song "Smoke Puff (The Crazy Car)" during one of their breaks! (show #35).
Yahhooo!
Saturday September 9th, 2000
Mixed stuff to report today;
First. let me start with the good stuff! THURSDAY: In the morning I met with a finance broker (never did that before). Hey, I can spend my money for a good time, but I can also save some for tomorrow.
I went to check my e-mail at the library. I saw my friend Ian Bruce, publisher of 432 Miles, and told him about my airplay on "Car Talk". He was working on his new issue and put the news right in! The new issue is being distributed as I write this!
I came home, ate, rested, and finally decided to go into NYC. MTV was giving their video music awards out at Radio City Music Hall and I decided top walk around the massive crowd dressed in my Howard Stern best! The fact that security thought that I was really Stern made it possible for me to get as far as the door to Radio City Music Hall!
I didn't have an admission ticket, and as one guard said to me "not even Clinton can get in here without a ticket".
oh well,............... While walking back, some girl gave me an invite to a jam party that will be at The Apollo(!) on the 22nd.
I was walking past the theater district on my way back to my car. I decided to take in a play; "Copenhagen". The play is based on a meeting of two scientists in 1941, discussing the creation of the first atomic bomb. It's a very good play, but you have to be a bit familiar with history and have a basic understanding of physics to understand some of the dialogue.
Now let me get to the 'not so good stuff';
I heard, earlier in the week, that John Lennon's killer (I refuse to use his name) will be up for parole next month. I didn't like hearing that. They say that since he's been a model prisoner, born-again, and hard worker in the prison library, that he might have a chance for release.
It's ironic to think that John Lennon's song "Attica State", brought an awareness to the deplorable conditions at Attica State Prison. An awareness that brought about an upgrading of the prison's condition - a prison which now houses his killer. [the guy he killed, saw to his comfort].
Lastly, The Lehigh Valley has lost one of its' musicians. Pete Peterson, 60, died on August 27th. We had a memorial service for him at his favorite restaurant in Bethlehem. He was a very talented pianist (cocktail style), played behind Jimmy Lawrence, had a vast musical knowledge, and was a great kidder! It's too bad to think that such a cheerful man died suffering from depression.
We all sat, holding candles and reminisced while a recording of him played in the background.
Monday September 18th, 2000
Well, here's a bit of good news! I've just been told that My first album, Self Made Man, has been mentioned in a new book, "Songs In The Key Of Z". The book is by Irwin Chusid. Irwin is a DJ at WFMU in New Jersey. My LP is in the back - listed for suggested listening.
Saturday September 23rd, 2000
Last night I played a venue that I never expected to play. The Apollo Theater in Harlem had an artists' get together. I went there, joined in the festivities and found myself, playing piano and singing at the Apollo!(!)
I received an invite while trying to crash the party at MTV's music awards at Radio city (see: Sept 9th entry).
