HISTORY OF THE SKULL AND SWORDS

The "Skull and Swords" is a symbol that represents a dark period in the histories of both; the Nile Empire, and the Kingdoms of Afran. Centuries before the unification of these two great empires; the native people of both lands were hunted, captured, and sold as slaves to any nation that would pay the highest prices.

Many of the slaves, as well as prisoners, ended up on the shores of the Isle of Newfreeland [ new free land ]; later referred to as Slavonia [ slave nation ]. The Imperial Commonwealth of Dewaconia has much of it's history rooted in the slave market. There is a distant, yet universal thread; that binds the people of the Nile-Afran Federation, with the people of Dewaconia. Approximately twenty-five per-cent of the population of Dewaconia, is of people of color.

Whenever a slave or prisoner refused to work; the Landlords of the plantations or mineral mines, would take long "swords" and sever the head of the accused. To make an example; the beheaded would remain in the open market area until there was only bones remaining. Then the "skull" would be permanently placed on a wood post; in the middle of the open market commons.

Hence, the short-story history, of the "Skull and Swords".

To this very day, all students in the Nile-Afran Federation school system, are expected to research their family's history; to determine if any of their ancestors were victims of this tragedy in human history.
