Will McLean Johnston, DrumKid

Will McLean Johnston, an 8yr old drum and percussion prodige' from Nashville, TN began playing drums at age 1. With a football helmet to protect his ears, wearing "pampers" and slippers, he rocked to Queen's "We Will Rock You" in perfect rhythm. His mom, recording artist/songwriter, Kim McLean, said, "Will heard nothing but rhythm guitar while in the womb. I toured the entire time I was expecting. He came into the world wanting to play drums." (www.kimmclean.com)

Kim saw her son's extreme talent and potential, and contacted Harry Wilkinson at Nashville's "Fork's Drum Closet" to start him in lessons at age 4. It wasn't long before the 'little kid' was playing drums as solid as the teens taking lessons.

Will McLean Johnston's drum tech and 'roadie', is also one of his greatest supporters,...his dad, songwriter/graphic artist, Joe Johnston. (www.joejohnstonarts.com)

His sister, Danielle, is a fashion stylist and his sister, Shea is a singer.

A-list Nashville studio drummer, Eddie Bayers helped Will get his first official pro-drums at age 6. Hours of practice, constant playing of the 'bongos' in the car, and a stage debut at the Dickson Renaissance Center with the Amen Sister Girlfriend Holy Water Revival, a true stage drummer was born in Will McLean Johnston. You can see his work on that show televised on the Dickson Cable System's Renaissance Channel in mid-TN. He's the short guy in the band behind the set of congas, on stage with Dave Hungate of Toto, Eddie Bayers, and John D. Willis (some of the finest studio session players in the world.)

Nothing intimidated Will McLean Johnston about playing with such notoriously great musicians. I guess...it takes one to know one. His 'regular' gig is with his mom, Sundays, at the Kingston Springs Church of the Nazarene.
