In 16th and 17th century state cultivation, traditional paddy cultivation, other agriculture is the main economic activities of the region. Till last 25 years, population growth & Colombo and other suburban centers developed rapidly that period as a result, agriculture based economy still remains and other economic activities such as Industrial and other service activities grow up gradually. Now , Homagama functions 4th order urban centre according to the Colombo mega police structure plan, identifying a Homagama Growth Centre.
