GCSE Desertification webquest.
Task.
Congratulations! You have been appointed by the President of Mali to represent your country at a conference on Desertification. At this conference you will need to give a presentation to the rest of the delegates about the impact of desertification on your country. This is an extremely important role as your country may get extra Aid to combat this problem.
Process.
You may work as an individual or as a group.
You will produce either a word document or a PowerPoint presentation on desertification in the Sahel.
Your presentation will include the following;
What desertification is?
Where the Sahel is? Please include a map.
What is the Sahel like?
What are the physical and human causes of desertification in the region?
What are consequences of desertification in the region?
How might the problem of desertification be tackled? Try and explain three strategies.
How successful have these strategies been?
It would be useful if your report included labelled photographs, diagrams and maps.

Evaluation.
This is a compulsory task and part of the GSCE syllabus. Desertification in the Sahel is our examination case study. Your presentation will be useful as a revision aid. The first week of term you will have an examination question on desertification.

Be able to locate the Sahel and describe its physical features.
Be able to explain the physical and human causes of desertification.
Be able to explain the consequences of desertification.
Be able to suggest some strategies to tackle the problem of desertification and evaluate the success of these.
