DeKalb County Genealogical Society
Welcome to the DeKalb County (Alabama) Genealgocial Society website.
We are a group of people searching for and preserving our family lineage, much of which may be found in DeKalb County, Alabama.
Our goals are (1) to add materials to the Mary Weatherly Research Room in the DeKalb Public Library; (2) to preserve our own family histories and histories of those who settled in or lived in DeKalb County, Alabama; (3) to encourage others to join us in this fascinating and invaluable hobby; (4) to help others find their roots; and (5) to make DeKalb County, Alabama records more available to other researchers.
Membership is $10 a person or $15 a family (in the same household); it is renewable yearly in January. A copy of your pedigree is requested at the time of admission and yearly if there have been additions or corrections.
Membership entitles you to association with others having like interests, voting priviledges, a quarterly printed newsletter, and free inquiries in the newsletter. Members are also invited to submit biographies, historical records, bible records, or other newsworthy items for publication in the "Settlers of DeKalb", our newsletter.
Meetings are held monthly (except in December when none is held unless a social is planned) on the second Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. in the DeKalb Public Library. Occasionally, there will be a field trip or project in lieu of a meeting. Several times throughout the year, guest speakers will be scheduled.
