Our Philosophy
Our Senior Center seeks to create an atmosphere that acknowledges the value of human life, individually and collectively, and affirms the dignity and self-worth of the older adult. This atmosphere provides for the reaffirmation of creative potential, the power of decision making, the skills of coping and defending, the warmth of caring, sharing, giving and supporting. The uniqueness of the senior center stems from its total concern for older people and its concern for the total older person. In an atmosphere of wellness, it developes strengths and encourages independence, while building interdependence and supporting unavoidable dependencies. It works with older persons, not for them, enabling and facilitating their decisions and their actions, and in so doing creates and supports a sense of community which further enables older persons to continue their involvement with a contribution to the larger community.
We are open to anyone wishing to participate in programs, classes and activities. We offer support in any senior issue. We also offer volunteer opportunities.
Some of the programs offered are:
Card Programs (euchre, bridge, pinochle, poker, cribbage, dominoes and canasta), Dancing such as: (line dancing, social dancing and clogging), Exercixe programs (Body Recall, low impact aerobics, Thai Chi, and Yoga) Bowling Leagues, Bingo, Potlucks, health clinics (flu shots, eye exams, ear testing, blood pressure weekly checks) and programs of all types.
Some of the classes offered are: Computers, Life Story Writing, Healthy Cooking, Plate Making, Soap Making, High Tea, Floral Arranging, Scrap Booking, etc.
Some of the Services we offer are: Transportation, Tax and Prescription Assistance, Insurance Assistance, Legal Assistance, Consumer Protection, Assistance for Low Income, Support Groups, Housing Assistance, etc.
