Rooted to the ground and thus unable to flee, plants need defenses against variety of predators and disease causing microorganisms. While obvious structural features such as thorns can deter large animal predators, more covert defenses are required against plant-eating & sap-sucking insects and disease causing microorganisms. For tea or any other perennial crops the pest’s attacks are the major threat to the productivity. Unlike rotational crops, tea is grown round the year over the long stretches of land. In such circumstances many pests have been able to create their permanent niche in the garden. Hence we need sound and effective pest management practices.

At the outset we must acknowledge that pest attacks are the result of some imbalances. There is a need to take measures to correct the cause behind those imbalances rather than act (to be more precise- react) upon the symptoms. Reacting upon the symptoms (i.e. spraying poisons if one perceive any pests) and resorting to short term solution for example prolonged use of synthetic pesticides will contribute more towards imbalance and will also result in insects being more adaptable and immune to the pesticides. Hence there is a need for more and more toxic chemicals as you continue with it. It seriously impairs your productivity and weakens your tea bushes, too. Synthetic toxicant generates excess amino acids that may leave plants turgid and weak. There are serious environmental hazards also associated with the use of synthetic poisons.

Previous to taking any steps for the destruction of injurious insects, it is indispensably necessary that we should be perfectly acquainted with them, not only in their perfect stage, but also in all their different stages. For it might easily happen that we might destroy most beneficial to our plantation and suffer the enemies to remain. We should take care of not destroying insects indiscriminately but should be able to recognize friends and enemies.

Another consideration is ‘economic return’. Number of different methods are available to reduce the damage; there is no one ‘best’ method for pest control, but that such methods or combinations of methods, should be used that in the process will give the planter the best economic return.

Compatibility is also the concern. Scientists have developed multifarious microbiological pathogens and predators. But their application/release seriously stipulates that no chemical poisons should be applied along with them.

Looked at in these perspectives biological control is much neglected, not because it does not work but because not enough research is done on it. Biological control method rectifies fundamental cause that gives rise to pest’s outbreak. Plants have evolved a host of defense mechanisms to combat pests. In most growing crops it may be observed that some individual plants either harbor far fewer pests than the others or else show relatively little sign of pest damage. These individuals usually represent a different genetic variety from the remainder of the crop, and this variety is said to show “resistance” to pests. Certain areas of your plantation suffer damage year after year clearly demonstrates that plant’s resistance level is drastically down. The desire to get high growing hybrid varieties has also resulted into weakened defense mechanisms in the plants. Hence our pest management exercise must be designed so that plant’s defense mechanisms are not impaired. If the nature has already gifted plants the secondary metabolites to defend themselves against pests, so why not use plants in aid of plants. This is all about biological control. We are part of energetic system that means it is the energies that characterize things and the qualities we exhibit. The word ‘healthy’ means ‘hale’ or ‘whole’. To be whole we need to have balance of energies. Health is more than freedom from disease, and is something to do with balance and strength.

Toxic substances in botanicals degrade naturally over time and do not linger or accumulate in the environment. They are effective on target pests and do not kill natural enemies indiscriminately, making sure that pests do not return again. Moreover they are cheaper and easy to use. Exploitive agriculture offers great possibilities if carried out in scientific way but poses great dangers if carried out with an immediate profit motive. There are the farmers who have been benefited from the sustainable way of controlling pest’s attack and we are interested in for you also to be a part of it.

DAKSH INDUSTRIES has been incorporated to contribute in these fronts through providing best-suited fundamental means and resources for soil fertility and pest management. Products offered are designed to give you best productivity along with maintaining maximum degree of purity in your final produce. We are briefly describing our products and details can be accessed through links below this page.

Pheromone Traps and Helure: HELURE is a synthetic attractant, is species specific, and designed to infatuate adult male and female Tea Mosquito Bug & Lepidoptera moths with no other insects and predators. HELURE is to be used with suitable glue-based trapping arrangement. HELURE and associated trap structure has nothing to do with tealeaves rather just hanged above the tea bush and affects only air with very minute quantity of added odors. Upon detecting the odor/fragrance target insects get caught onto the trap. It can be used in organic or biodynamic certified garden without any pre-required certification since it is not applied over the leaves; to repeat it is just hanged over the bush. Our details of pheromone traps mentions tea plantation however this system can be used in other crops as well.

ORGANIC FERTILIZERS, PESTICIDES & HERBICIDES: We have wide range of organic inputs for fertility and pest management. Kindly go through the link below for more details.
