"LET `EM GROW UP TO BE COWBOYS"
Ol` Waylon told mammas not to let `em grow up
to be cowboys & pickers & such..
said they`d always be gone, always alone,
& they`d drive them ol` pick-up trucks.
I reckon I`m different when it comes to boys
& lookin at who they could be,
`cause I`m a mamma & when I look at my young`n
I fill up with pride from what I see!
He`s just short of 10 years old
with eyes as blue as the sky
& just as big; when he see`s the bull
he`s drawn & it catches his eye!!
What some may see as a wirey young child
I see as a little growing man.
with a fearless grip on the rush he gets
when he`s got that beast in his hands.
This is the very same little man
who once thought he was nothin` more
than a child with nothin` to look forward to
as life shoved him through each door.
Then came the day he fixed his gaze
upon a beast ten times his weight
An unpredictable animal
with a glare in his eye full of hate!
A challenge is what he felt that day
as he jumped at the chance to ride,
& a boy soon became a man
as his body became one with the hide.
Over & over he begs to go back
to prove his fearlessness again.
To some it`s only an 8 second ride
but to him it`s a lifetime within!
To ride is to live, to live is to be!
THIS cowboy is proof you see.
`Cause when he rides, he`s free inside
& that`s the way it should be!
In a cowboys heart is a place that is sacred
& there, lives the spirit of control!
This is where he`ll turn to for comfort
when all else feels wrong in his soul.
A bullrider is often misunderstood
& mistaken as a junkie for thrills!
But make no mistake, his truest desire
is to become one with an inner driven will.
The will to prevail. The will to survive.
The will to remember just why he`s alive.
He don`t need money, He don`t need famed,
He just needs him a beast that`s begging to be tamed!
