Carla's Craft Page

This is a page for some of my crafts.

Sandle Candles

I bet you thought making candles was hard! You can actually make them out of wax crystals in containers. These candles were originally invented to help foot soldiers fit the wax into their bags. Today they are a delightful and simple home accent.

Be sure to get the following items at the store:

Small Glass containers - NOT candle holders, but fish bowls, cups, or any other item you would generally find "container" candles in.
Waxed Wick - You'll pour the wax crystals around this.
Wax Crystals - Get several colors. Otherwise you won't be able to make any designs!

First, put the waxed wick in the middle of your container. Pour one color of wax crystals around the wick, so it stays in place. Then pour the next layer and make sure not to tilt the wick. Otherwise it wont burn very well.

You can use all the same techniques that you use when you make sand bottle s when you're making sand candles. When you've filled the container, it's done! Voila, instant candle!

Kite Book

These are an interesting alternative to a normal journal. The first one was brought to King Henry the 8th by an ambassador from Japan. It is called a Kite Book because the kind of orgiami fold it uses is called a kite fold.

To do this project, you will need:

Orgiami Paper - At least 10 or 20 sheets. You can get this at Michael's mostly.
Glue - Elmer's, Rubber Cement, etc.
Ribbon - Preferably flat and black.

To start, make the cover of the journal. Fold one piece of paper in half with the design side out, then fold the half in half again. Do this twice.

Then, you'll make the pages on the inside of the journal. Basically, you fold each piece into a kite fold. You can find instructions on how to do this here : http://www.geocities.com/teabagfolding/Standard_Kite_Fold/standard_kite_fold.html

Next, glue each piece of paper to the next, and glue the stack of pages to the cover pieces. The next step is to glue the ribbon between the folds of the cover pieces, so that you can tie the book up. Slide the ribbon so that it crosses the piece diagonally, cover it with glue, and close the cover. Do this on both sides.

Now you have a neat orgiami book that you can write in!

A Decorative Mirror

At the craft store, you can get a lot of tiles and small, flat objects that can be easily glued to a base mirror. I like doing this, and sometimes it can end up looking better than a frame!

That's all I can think of for now, but I am always crafting! I'll let you know if I think up any more crazy ideas!
