Kids In Cop Karts

KIDS IN COP KARTS

This program has been started with our community’s children in mind. Several of the local and county law enforcement officers have built a go-kart track to have fun in there spare time. These officers would like to offer the opportunity to the children of community to learn the basic knowledge to operate a go-kart in a drug free safe and friendly environment. Law enforcement officers will teach all of the course instruction. This instruction is on a voluntary basis during the officer’s off-duty time. So there will be no cost to our taxpayers for this instruction. The following page will show a list of classroom study. The classroom study may occur either in an actual classroom or may be instructed at the location of the go-kart track whichever works out better for the instructors at the time. After the classroom study there will be an opportunity for the children to actually drive the karts on the track with the supervision of an instructor.
This opportunity will be offered as part of the after school program as a Hesston Middle School activity. Although there may be a possibility that part of the instruction may happen on a Saturday depending on the amount of students that sign up.
There will be a waiver of liability release that will be require a signature by a parent of guardian of the child that are planning to participate in the driving portion of the class.
We hope to see a majority of the students get involved in this activity and possibly some parents. We hope this activity will give all of us the opportunity to interact with people we normally just wave at as we drive by. This will also give the children an opportunity to get to know us and other children of the community that they may normally don’t associate with.
Thank you for your interest in this program. If you have any questions please direct your questions to Officer Jim Brandewiede at the Hesston Police department, 620-327-2020 or John Mckay at the Hesston Middle School, 620-327-7111
