CONTACT THE FBI
Contact the FBI. How would you do that online? How about www.ContactTheFBI.com.
A few weeks after the 9/11 attacks, I got on the FBI’s website and was appalled to discover they were still using their fraud hotline for tips. I wrote to the Attorney General. No answer. So I wrote to the Secretary of Homeland Security. No answer. Never heard from the FBI Director, either. But in short order, the fraud hotline, www.ifccfbi.gov, disappeared, replaced by a terrorist hotline, www.tips.fbi.gov.
www.tips.fbi.gov and 866-483-5137, how easy are those to remember? And most people associate the Internet with dot com, not biz, info, net, org, edu, and the rest of the alphabet soup. 5 years into the Internet and nobody had ever thought of registering the ultimate domain name for providing information to our most crucial investigative agency. 2 years into the war on terrorism and I still had not heard from any of these 3 gentlemen. I even let it expire, then registered it again. Which means the idea had disappeared from their radar.
How about ContactTheFBI@Yahoo.com or ContactTheFBI@Hotmail.com. Yahoo and Hotmail are the 2 most famous email service companies in the world. Yet until I registered them a few days ago, these addresses were dormant.
I’m not at liberty to discuss the strategies I proposed and have in mind. Suffice it to say, terrorists make good use of the Internet.
As of this writing, 10:15 a.m., 12/23/2003, no one had registered www.contacthomelandsecurity.com. www.contactthefbi.gov was not in use. The Department of Homeland Security is using a torturous URL instead of the simple www.homelandsecurity.gov. I haven’t checked if anyone has registered www.contactthecia.com, contactthecia@yahoo.com, or contactthecia@hotmail.com. Would anyone like to register contacthomelandsecurity@yahoo.com and contacthomelandsecurity@hotmail.com?
Try this from the Attorney General's testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, shortly after 9/11 and apparently before I wrote to him, in which he lists the FBI's web and phone hotlines: "I also urge Americans to notify immediate immediately the FBI of any suspicious circumstances that may come to their attention regarding crop-dusting aircraft, or any other possible terrorist threat. The FBI Web site is www.ifccfbi.gov -- pardon me, .org -- that's www.ifccfbi.org. Our toll free telephone number is 866-483- 5137 -- 866 -- that's toll-free -- 866-483-5137." Which is it, www.ifccfbi.gov or www.ifccfbi.org?
