The Connotton Valley Railway, Inc., established in October 2002, is a freight hauling railroad as well as a scenic, tourist line.
This branch of the Connotton Valley Railway was born in the 1880's when the Youngstown & Connotton Valley Railroad and the Connotton Northern merged to form the Connotton Valley. The Connotton Valley reached Bedford in July 1881 while at the same time heading toward Coshocton, reaching that town in 1883. A planned extension to Zanesville was postponed, but the track work into Cleveland was finished in Novemeber 1881. It was built as a narrow gauge railway and was the last of any consequence to operate east of the Mississippi River. It was widened to standard gauge in one day, Nov. 18, 1888.
Sit back and enjoy the leisurely hour and twenty minute ride through part of the scenic Cleveland Metro Park System and historic Tinker's Creek Valley and view the wildlife in its natural setting.
The Connotton Valley Railway Freight Office is located at 820 Broadway Avenue, Bedford, Ohio 44146. The site for the train ride is located at 33 1/2 South Park Street, Bedford, Ohio, directly behind the Bedford Depot. Tickets for the train ride may be purchased on the train during regular operating season.
