About Pan American Consultants (PAC)
Cody Serra, President, a native from Argentina and a student of cultural differences, started Pan American Consultants in 1992. Ms. Serra has more than 15 years of personal expertise in the field of translation and over 25 years of teaching experience. She has a post graduate degree in Sociology and Social Psychology from Michigan State University. She studied the impact of cultures in communication and has very personal interests in participating in the verbal and written exchange of messages in the global marketplace and in personal contacts. She believes that foreign language knowledge is the best tool to promote cultural understanding and find success in today’s multicultural environment.
Ms. Serra is an associate member of the American Translators Association (ATA) and the Metroplex Interpreters and Translators Association (MITA) in Dallas, Texas.
WHY IS SPANISH AN IMPORTANT TOOL FOR BUSINESS AND PLEASURE?
In 1999 it was estimated there were 332,000,000 native Spanish speakers in the world. In the USA, the demographic structure of the population is in constant change. The size of minority groups has increased steadly. The Hispanic population estimate in 2000 was 32.8 million (13%). This number increased by more than 9.1 million over a 9-year period.
In our experience, cultural differences are sometimes greater barriers than the language itself. A good communicator acts as a bridge between the people involved in the exchange of ideas and concepts. Your organization will be effective across cultural borders when its people understand the differences, and they can properly transfer the message culturally adapted to the target population, as if originally written in that language.
