Gary's Basketball card webpage
Hi and welcome to my webpage. Everything that you see here is not everything that I have but it is most of it. I only trade and if you want to trade e-mail me with what you have and what you are looking for. All game jerseys are at the bottom. My e-mail address is COMICKIDGG@aol.com

My Philosophy: Please take the time to read this you may find it interesting. As you can see I do not have alot of the newer stuff on this page such as serailly numbered rc autograph gamejerseys. This is because of two reasons. First off the quality of rc's is not like it use to be so there is really no point in investing money in the new rookies, becasue after the first season is over everyone realizes that these players have several years to go before they become an elite player and all thier cards go down. Steve Francis's EX RC was valued at about $100 when it first came out and people went out and payed $100+ for this card. In about 18 months the card was worth about $20 which is when I bought it. I figured hey, here is a player who will be a great player one day and no one wants his cards and they are very cheap right now. The one rule about collecting that I have experienced about collecting is that if a card reaches a certain peak then experiences a decline in price then one day it can reach those heights once again. Look at Chris Webber, here is a player who was practically a common card and now his cards are worth a lot of money just like when he entered the league. Its all about patience. Examples of players we had to be patient with are Tracy McGrady, Ben Wallace, and Jermaine O'neal. These are guys whose cards were dirt cheap and it took them several years before they were making an impact with their respected teams and now there cards are going through the roof. The second reason why I dont have newer stuff is that there are too many different sets. I first started to collect basketball cards during the 96-97 season which doesn't seem like a long time ago. There were about 12 sets in which you could collect which is a fair number. These days there are about 30-40 different sets each one having multiple game jerseys and numbered rc's. I am with most collectors that think the idea of a piece of a game worn jersey on a basketball card is pretty neat, but all these cards companies have gone overboard with producing to much of the same thing. 97-98 was when the game jersey first made its appearance to the basketball card collecting hobby inserted at 1:2500 packs. That sounds like an astronomical number, but when you actually saw one you had an appreciation for it because you rarely saw it. Now there inserted at 1:3 packs and every dealer you go to has hundreds of them so I as a collector don't appreciate them therefore I dont buy into them. I only buy into them so I can trade them to other collectors, because game jerseys are the big trend right now. With their being so many game jerseys out there it is like our economy. Our economy is going through inflation, which makes stock prices go down. The basketball card industry is exactly like the stock market. What goes up must come down and if youre lucky it will go back up which brings me back to my Chris Webber example. He is drafted as the number one overall pick coming from arguably the most popular college team ever being THE FAB FIVE. His cards are very expensive because of this popularity. Webber however is stuck in Golden State and Washington playing for lousy teams and having run-ins with the law his cards go down to common status. He gets traded to Sacramento and cleans his act up and plays for a championship contender and all of a sudden his cards are now listed with the likes of Micheal Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Vince Carter the most popular players in the industry. If you are wondering why I talk about Chris Webber, its because of patience. At first collectors wanted all his cards, and it turned out that he was several years away from superstar status so everyone sold his stuff, and now he is a great player and everyone is buying into his cards again. This is pretty much how the card industry fluctuates. This is why I'm not quick to buy cards of Jamaal Tinsley, Tony Parker, Pau Gasol, or Jason Richardson, and Shane Battier among others. This is because most of these players aren't playing for good teams and their numbers aren't all that great so I guarantee you that in the next 6-12 months that these players cards will go down significantly. As for Tinsley and Parker who are playing for good teams there cards will go down if there team doesn't win the championship, because first off there numbers will have declined from playing such a long season, and there numbers aren't that good yet, and it is also the offseason when everything slows down a bit. Also people will somewhat forget these players because everyone wil be excited about the new rookie class and the cycle repeats itself. Back to the game jerseys. There are so many game jerseys and they are so easy to get that is why they are all so cheap. Come on $5 for a game jersey. That is disgusting for such a cool card. So right now the industry is going throgh inflation and everything is so cheap because there is so much to choose from. I think in the next five years or so that the card companies are going to wise up and you will see less and less sets. This brings me to what I collect. I collect rookies from the past several years who are proven players but are not very expensive...yet. An example is Antoine Walker. My friend bought his Finest Rookie at $40 and it dropped to under $5 because Walker wasn't a proven player so his cards went down. This brings me to my last point in that Walker is now an all star playing for a very good team, and I think the combination of that and collectors getting tired of game jerseys will allow Walker's cards along with other players cards to go up dramatically. And I'm talking about non serial numbered cards. I'm talking about cards of Steve Nash, Antoine Walker, Allen Iverson, Stephon Marbury, Tim Duncan, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Dirk Nowitzki, among others. These are all players who have very few serail number rcs if none at all.
If you have taken the time to read this I thank you. Just remember that this is my opinion, and that I think that collecting cards is the greatest hobby on Earth. I am open to all arguments and am curious to hear what other collectors think of this philosophy.
