Power King Economy Tractor Information And History

Most of us are familiar with the work done by tractors in yard and garden work, and also on farms and road construction. There are many other reasons that people purchase tractors as well. There are collectors of these items just as there are collectors of antique cars. Some of the models have been handed down through many generations of families, and the collection and restoration of them continues. Read on about Power King Economy tractor information and history.

One of the oldest forms of what we know as the engine was being used on the tractor in the early days. Steam engines during the 1800's were used, but they were not self-propel, they were known as portable. By 1850, the first self-propelled (traction) engines were being used. Steam engines continued to be the only type of engine to power our machinery all the way into the twentieth century.

In Iowa, John Froelich had invented the first tractor powered by gasoline in 1892. He gained a patent for his model and started his own company. Unfortunately Waterloo Gasoline Traction Engine Company did not succeed and went out of business by 1895.

Hart and Parr developed the two-cylinder gas powered engine. They constructed fifteen models in 1903. Number three of this series is on display and listed as the eldest combustion engine tractor in the US to remain in operation. It can be found at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History located in Washington, DC.

While an improvement, the first models were unfortunately too large and too expensive for most individuals to own. By 1910, they had been redesigned as smaller and more affordable. Henry Ford came into the picture in 1917 as the first one to mass produce this model. This engine type was a completely normal item by the 1920's.

Most people still only think of the farm version, even though many different variations based on the jobs they do are in existence. Many types of tractors are available now, for various projects both large and small. There are also different types of tractor tires. Some of the models include engineering, compact utility, garden, along with others.

Various antique collectors consider these tractors as prized possessions of their collections. Some of them collect also used tractor tires. Some of the tractor models have been handed down through many generations of families. Just as one may attend a car show, tractor shows are common for these enthusiasts as well.

A corporation once known as Engineering Products in Waukesha, Wisconsin set out with a goal to build excellent quality garden tractors. Later changing their name to Power King Economy, these tractors have been manufactured since 1946. The company continued to manufacture the high quality products for over fifty years.

Although they began with Economy in the name, it was later dropped thinking that it may lead people to believe the products were cheap. There was nothing cheap about the product, and changing the name was a good idea. These products are not only good quality, but have become collectors items. The collection of these tractors and replacement parts that includes also tractor tires has become family tradition, and a hobby for enthusiasts everywhere.
