updated 19/08/2004 we think

just in joburg waiting to go to singapore on wed, the first continent has been cracking to say the least from climbing table mountain to getting drunk on wine tours, from going shark cage diving and not seeing any to feeding elephants, from watching world surf champs to eating fantastic curry, from climbing amongst untouched beauty to visiting aparteid museums, and that is just in South africa. In Namibia we climbed the worlds highest sand dune it was massive, in Botswana we saw lions and camped amongst the wildlife of africa including all the monsters, in Zambia we hit complications regarding visas as well as seeing the spectacular vic falls and getting lashed on the Zambezi, in Malawi I got sun burnt beyond belief on the beach of a sea like lake. And then Mozambique well what can we say we snorkelled in a two mile reeef and saw some of the most colourful fish ever and an octty and drove along the worst roads ever with pot holes as deep as three foot. We also came within half a metre of getting mowed up by a beast of a lorry (had to change pants straight after) The real fun started on the third to last day when we broke down and hung about for ten hours straight waiting for something to happen. The next day when we had replacement transportand that decided to break down and catch fire!! When we did finally make it back to joburg we managed to get locked in our room for two hours within hours of been back-hopefully we've used all our bad luck for this trip.
Still it's all been good fun
Piccys are coming-watch this space they are worth the wait

The piccys are here at long last
We are now in Singapore and it so humid you have to wipe the brow when you are at the toilet even more so with all the curry that is avaialble, mmm curry. I even managed to put rice in a supposed indian dessert-still it tasted nice. Off to a China town festival tonight that should be manic. I think Pip is looking forward to some food other than curry. I notice the weather is looking quite hot back home well that's what you lot reckon anyway!
Must go as Pip is getting stern
Love to all

Well, well, well what have we been up to since last time i shall tell you: Arrived in malaysia and chilled in melaka, went to the hustle and bustle of kl and saw the usual touristy places as well as about one million malls (mall capital of the world)If you haven't already heard pip got attacked by some monkeys in some caves, i thought it was funny until i realised she could have contracted rabies so i rushed to the rescue-ok then they just ran off while i laughed, we went to tioman a tropical island where i got the worst sun burn ever again- my whole back peeled nearly to the bone. KL was again visted this time it was even hotter, busier and smelly than last time but it is such a cool place. Now writing from the cameron highlands we are still recovering from a hardcore trek in the jungle where we bumped into someone called tarzan all he said was oaaaaaaaaaaaar. something like that anyway. also in kl this massive place on the other side of the world i bumped into an old school friend in dan saleh how mad is that.

hello
well we've enjoyed the majority of our three weeks here in vietnam, now bring on cambodia and it's temples. what do you want me to tell you about nam. as you can tell from the pictures it is a very diverse and colourful country and it has the world's largest concentration of mopeds i kid you not, we have seen up to five people riding on just one moped and even a guy riding on a moped somehow hanging onto a six foot fridge with one arm-very funny. the people when not hassling you to buy something every 2.6 seconds are very friendly and seem to live happy lives. yes there are a very large number of people with primary or secondary physical effects from the US war and you do have to feel for these victims. it is one of the only places i have given to beggers. we have had several curries here in vietnam but they just dont live up to the thai ones or even english ones, two more lamb bhunas over here love. the chief also didn't get chance to wear his red rag round his head although maybe should have done at the range. pip is as lovely as ever and looking forward to the temples as much as she looked forward to coming to nam.
over and out for now

back in bangkok once again
well we visited the temples of angkor and were not disappointed. the photos are an injustice. we nearly didnt have any photos as pip decided to drop the camera on the floor but yours truly managed to be jim'll fix it. now then, now then said with a cigar in my gob. we had another long winded eventful bus journey on the worst roads ever, even worse than mozambique but not as dangerous as everyone seems to drive half sensibly. when we transferred onto a bus in thailand which was an absoulute spanker it decided to break down, quite ironic after travelling on some bangers in vietnam and cambodia and not breaking down. dont know if you have seen the weather in vietnam or if you are remotely bothered but we have missed monsoons by a week and some of the places we have visited are now under water!! up to chang mai tomorrow for some trekking and cooking classes even though we are great cooks anyway. been for our suit fittings today and they are marvellous, we even look half decent. the quality is second to none and paying more than the copies on khoa san has proved to be worthwhile. bring on the wedding bj-cant wait not just for the suit wearing neither. old numpty bum-me tried leaving my brillant tailor made shoes at a cafe today and only realised when we were in the middle of bangkok on a tuk tuk, luckily mr tuk tuk man got his foot down and managed to get us back before they had been nicked. god did the chief get an earful off the mischief. right i must get on as off for my monthly workout now.
tam biet (vietnam style for goodbye)

well that's just about it for asia
we have had many an experience along the way just as in africa, some similar some totally different, that's what the whole travelling epic is all about. if you haven't heard about the ping pong show then you dont want to. just in our final days we have encountered the perils of patpong, a true thai boxing night, and a day combining floating markets and tiger sancturies which i must say totally justifies going to, dont take any notice of the lonely planet. (i have issues with that book!) We have learnt many a thing big and little again along the way, a couple of examples of that new knowledge is anything can be bought, sold, or fixed in asia with relative ease, and if you are going to use an asian toilet and forget to take toilet paper in with you then make sure you are wearing socks if you know what we mean. that's it for this update, next update will be coming from sunny sydney in which we fly to on sunday.
happy christmas shopping

happy 2005

well i hope everyone is aspiring to have an even greater year than the last, we may struggle after february. what have the two rogues been up to since we last updated? read on and find out.
we shall start with sydney and well what a culture shock sort of getting back to normality and all that, and only getting 4 decent sunny days out of the 14 we were there for, including crimbo eve and day which were shockers. we had the worst crimbo dinner ever and decided to sleep for the afternoon after that as the beaches were not an option. crimbo eve we had a few cheeky ones and then had crisp sarnies while watching parkie which we very much enjoyed. new years eve was good, we sat on a hill for 14 hours to see two firework shows which lasted 15 mins each over the harbour bridge. it was good but we wouldn't sit for 14 hours again to see them! activities that we did while we were in syders included climbing the harbour bridge, museum touring, sight seeing including the very delectible opera house, visiting bondi and manly beach which were rubbish and drinking lots of coffee, yep i said coffee and not booze, we just couldn't afford it even though we thought we had a millionaires budget compared to the rest of our travels, even a loaf of bread cost over a quid!
reflection on sydney nice, but could have left after 6 days if it weren't for seeing the new year in there.
onto new zealand in which we have been for a week and we have to say it is fab. oh and lush, it is just so green from what we have seen so far here in nz. my uncle and aunty have spoilt us for the last six days and now we are back to proper backpacking which will take a couple of days to get used to. we have been fed so well i think we have both put on a stone in the last week! while we were up in whangerei region with my family we crusied on their boat, water skied, ate, chilled out in rich people's spas and pools, climbed mountains, ate, went to the beach and boogie boarded, drank, oh yeh and did i say we ate?
That's all for now folks

The past three weeks have brought about wine tours, jet boating, bungies, canyon swings, comedy clubs, seeing picture postcard views with every turn of the head, sleeping in tipis, sun bathing, kayaking (and nearly drowning), getting attacked by seaguls, hardcore mountain climbing, visiting glaciers. What else is in the pipe line, hopefully whale watching and swimming with dolphins in all but the next few days.
All good things must come to end, but not yet, not yet as maximus's buddy said.
Love to all
Pip and a slightly insane (too much coffee before hand) Chief
