Chairiot Express Wheelchair Athletes Association
Competitive wheelchair sports began in the late 1940's when diasabled World War Veterans began tossing a basketball around their hospital ward. the psychological and psysical benefits of sports participation opened up exiciting opportunities for disabled athletes. Wheelchair sports became officially recognized in 1957, when the 1st National Wheelchair Games were held in New York. Today wheelchair sports are nationally and internationally acknowledged through wheelchair games held around North America and Europe, and through Paralympic and Olympic competitions.
CEWAA is committed to enhancing the lives of the disabled youth and adults with new and old injuries alike, through sports competition and teamwork.
The Chairiot Express is currenly involved in Road & Track, Basketball
(Our B-Ball team is in the Mid Atlantic conferance of the NWBA), Tennis and are looking to expand into other area of sports competition like Snow Sking, Water Sking ETC.
