Support The Cutlerville Fire Fighters
To the Citizens of Byron and Gaines Township:
Byron Township Supervisor Audrey Nevins and Gaines Township Supervisor Don Hilton have entered into contract negotiations with Rockford Ambulance Service to provide Medical First Response and Advanced Life Support Transport for the "Cutlerville Area" at a cost to both townships. This would cause the of termination of the 3 full-time fire fighters which staff the Cutlerville Fire Department 6am-6pm Monday thru Fridays. This also would cause a loss of emergency services for the communitiy. Also people who are not familiar with the area would be responding to medical emergencies.
This "unfair labor practice" by the townships is thought to be a response to the full time firefighters forming a union and seeking a collective barganing agreement. Which is currently still in negotiations! The full time fire fighters are seeking an improvement in work conditions and wages. The firefighters are some of the lowest paid in the region.
American Medical Response and Life EMS both provide Advanced Life Support transport to both townships at no cost. Both companies are recognized as leaders in the medical transportation business. The townships are not negotiating with AMR or Life EMS.
What does this mean to the citizens of Byron and Gaines Township?
1. Longer response times to medical emergencies.
2. Longer response times to fire emergencies.
3. An increase in your homeowners insureance rates due to an increase in your ISO rating.
4. A decrease in services for the amount of taxes you are paying.
5. What is going to happen if there are multiple medical emergencies in either township (which happens frequently)?? The next closet Rockford Ambulance unit will be coming from Sparta or Rockford (35 to 45 min. drive).
6. You will not see any savings on your taxes.
What can you do?
1. Call your respective township supervisors and tell them how you feel about this issue or attend a township board meeting and be heard, its your money they are using.
2. Sign the guestbook and leave your comments.
3. Email the Byron and Gaines Township Supervisor on the links page under the Government link.
