Real Stories of CDOT Highway Patrol 60
Welcome to the Home Page!
This is the unofficial (uses real names) web page for the Colorado Department of Transportation's Highway Maintenance barn in Cotopaxi, Colorado.

This is a photo of our "barn". Click here for more barn photos. (coming soon…) Catch the excitement.
In CDOT-ease "barn" means "shop". I don't know why. Maybe a long time ago they had chickens.
The purpose of this site is to provide information on what we do at CDOT, specifically what Patrol 60 is up to.
Up until May 15 we will be working on cleaning the rocks out of ditches. The rafters whined so now we can't close a lane to do maintenance on the road between May 15 and September 15. (I'll try to get some photos of rafters peeing into the Arkansas River posted so you can be even more impressed. Remember, we have to give it back to Kansas.)
It's getting close to the end of CDOT's fiscal year, so CDOT MUST use up a lot of oil (A.K.A. asphalt, money) so they can get it into their budget next year. So we (Patrol 60) have to travel great distances to help other patrols on secondary roads spend money. But that's another story for later. Anyhow, we spend a LOT of time on other patrols. I would rather work on "our" section of road. I don't get to vote.
Factoids:
Patrol 60 does maintenance on US Highway 50 between mile markers 241.26 (Coaldale) and 266.09 (Parkdale). The Arkansas River borders the entire Patrol.

Jerry Degenhart, Transportation Maintenance I (TM1, or not the boss either)
The local sociologist once told me we would always be in turmoil because there were three of us. So then, apparently, the saying "Three is a crowd" actually has scientific support.
CDOT Engineering axiom #243: If the hole is round, drive a square peg into it. Forcefully.
Here is a photo of us on our way to help the invalids on Patrol 27 (CDOT Maintenance, Westcliffe). No, we're not pretty.
