1995 Sightings.
May
16th, Scarborough.
Security guard Ron Ella reported sighting the ‘panther’ that has been stalking the area
on and off for several years around the town.
Ron flagged down a passing patrol car just before 05.00hrs. He said: “It looked like a
cross between a panther and a Leopard, it was large and it was not a dog or a fox, it
was bigger than a very big Alsation.”
He continued: “The animal walked from Columbus Ravine into bushes at Peasholm
Park. It was dark in colour and the thing that really stuck out was its tail - it was long
and curled at the end. I drove into the park after it but it had vanished.

14th Scarborough.
The large cat often seen in the area has been blamed for the mauling of an already dead
calf on John Tyson’s Stepney Hill farm near Scarborough.
A football sized chunk had been ripped from the rear, the mud nearby was covered
with 3” inch, “panther tracks.”
Mr Tyson said: “The 16 stone carcass had been dragged eight yards towards a gate.
Whatever it was had to be very strong. I have never seen anything like it in 25 years of
farming.”

September
2nd, Brough.
Cornishman Ian Smythe claims to have captured the ‘Beast of Brough’ on camera
while on a bird-watching trip to the area.
Ian was strolling near woods in North Ferriby at 10.00hrs, when he saw a large cat-like
creature bounding across a field near the River Humber. He said: “I moved along the
hedgerow to make a closer inspection, as I did so the beast had more cat-like features
that of a dog.”
Mr. Smythe took three photographs after observing the animal for around five minutes
before it headed off towards the A68.

16th:

December.
20th:
A driver says he saw a cat-like creature on the A64 Scarborough to York road - just a
week after armed police drew up contingency plans in case a creature was cornered.
The latest sighting was reported by retired management consultant Leigh Russell who
claims to have seen a big cat in his car headlights. Police in Ryedale have confirmed
that firearms will be used if any creature became a threat to the public. Mr Russell, 64,
was on his way home to Terrington when he saw a cat-like beast near the Flaxton
turn-off, between York and Malton. He said the creature was black and brown, about
3ft long with a tail, and "definitely not" a fox or a dog. Mr Russell's report follows
sightings of a big white cat in woodland at Hovingham, near Malton, just over a week
ago. A Ryedale woman said she had seen a creature which was at least four times the
size of a domestic cat with a leopard- shaped head, long neck and tail. There have also
been reports from the Scarborough area of sightings of a black panther.
