Tornadoes
Tornadoes are one of Mother Natures deadliest disasters, But they don't usually last very long. 69% of all tornadoes only last 1-10 minutes, these are considered the weak ones, 29% of all tornadoes can last 20 minutes or longer, these are considered the strong ones, and 2% of all tornadoes can exceed an hour or longer, these are considered the strong ones. The strongest tornadoes are spawned by what is know as a thunderstorm supercell. Areas wher warm tropical air mass and cool artic air mass seem to collide more often than other places are more likely to experience tornadoes. In the United states this area is known as "Tornado Alley". This area includes:Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. Tornadoes are very unpredictable, they can shift positions at anytime, they can breakout at anytime and almost anywhere, and they can destroy a house on one side of a street and leave a house on the other side of the street untouched. Tornadoes are based on a scale of how much damage they do, this is known as the Fujita scale, formed by Ted Fujita. The scale ranges from f-1's to f-5's(f-1's being the least destructive, and f-5's being the most destructive).F-1's are not that popular though, neither are f-5's. The most popular tornadoes are f-2's, f-3's, and f-4's. Tornadoes mainly travel from Southwest, to Northeast, but it is not unusual to see it travel a different direction. If you see a tornado it is safest to be in a basement, up against the west wall, crouching down with your hands over your head. If you don't have a basement, the next best thing is a closet. If you are outside and you are not near shelter or you can't get inside the shelter in time, you should go into a ditch, or the lowest elevation possible. Also, you should never try to chase or video record a tornado, because it is extremely dangerous.
