UPPER COMMAND CAPSULE

B14, 17-19, 39-43, 52, 67/8, 70-73, 102-5, 170 & see Ex24:10

1:22/23 Above/over the heads of the living creatures was, as it were,
the likeness of a firmament/vault/plate

glittering like a sheet of ice/shining like rock crystal, awe-inspiring/

spread out above/stretched over their heads above them.

Under the vault, their wings were spread/stretched straight out,
touching one another/ each one towards another,

while one pair covered the body of each.

He looks up to the mighty arching dome of the central body beneath which
the rotor blades are folded up and down.
He sees a very smooth bright shining surface typical of some alloys.

[the word 'vault' can be rendered as 'a hemisphere of hammered metal'
[C20].

This 'firmament' is the craft's thickest part and can shield an upper
capsule from the reactor.
Other surfaces are thinner and lighter as there is rarely anybody in
that direction for long periods.

1:24 I heard, too, the noise/roar of their wings; when they moved it was
like the

noise/ roar of a great torrent/great waters or of a cloud-burst/many
waters/thunder/voice of the Almighty,

like the noise/roar of a crowd or of an armed camp/ a sound of tumult
like that of a host.

B 12,30 For the first time, Ezekiel definitely reports craft noise [but
verse may be an insertion]

as rotors and motors move from idling to full power.

The storm wind at the start of the encounter [see 1:4] is not said to
have any noise or to be emanating from the 'craft', but see 3:12 & 43:2.

1:24/5 When they halted/stood their wings dropped/ they let down their
wings.

there was thunder in the firmament above them/ A sound was heard above
the vault over their heads

/And there came a voice from the place above the firmament which was
above their heads, as they halted with drooping wings.

/ When they stood, they let their wings hang loose.

The helicopters stop rolling and fold their rotor blades [the wings drop
& go silent]. Ezekiel now hears:

[1] the sound of the idling central power plant

[2] and/or a voice which makes him look up -

1:26 Above the vault over their heads there appeared / could be seen ,
as it were, something like a sapphire/lapis lazuli

in the shape of a throne,...

Above the dome is/appears [it is not said to come from any direction or
make any noise [+see 9:3, 10:1]] the commanders' seat.

Seen in the midst of a confusing, almost immaterial mixture of light and
colour,
it has the 'likeness' of a throne ( = high back, arm rests).

The sapphire colour, used in aircraft seats today, indicates
psychological traits similar to ours.

The seat is in a relatively small cylindrical capsule 6½' in diameter
[not mentioned by Ezekiel].
This capsule can travel by itself or under remote control, powered by
cold gas rockets.
Its upper part is convex, like the bulkhead of a pressure vessel. Its
transparent shell gives all round visibility.

1:26 - 28 and high above all, upon/above the likeness of the throne at
the top, was a form in human likeness.

I saw what might have been brass glowing like fire in a furnace/gleaming
bronze[as fire appears, which is enclosed round about]

from what had the appearance of his loins/waist upwards ; and downwards
I saw what looked like fire/ the appearance of open fire

with encircling radiance/and there was brightness round about the form.

Like a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day was the sight of that
encircling radiance;

it was like the appearance of the glory of Yahweh.

'Glittering' 'Adam' is seated upon/above this likeness of a throne.

Ezekiel describes this manifested form on it in the best way he can.

He does not say he is seeing 'God on a throne'. He details:

[1] around whole 'body' - a surrounding gentle rainbow-like light
reflected through and off the capsule surface,

from the sky, sun [but Encounters may have taken place in darkness - the
Jewish day starts in the evening see 10:12&43:2?] and shiny platform,
and the sapphire hue of the seat.

[2] upper 'body' - [E58] 'burns above in calm gleam of heavenly
brightness'

[3] lower 'body' - 'fiery' reflected light from the protective suit of
the 'form'.

[B134] this suit protects [& reflects?] from the reactor below, rather
than the atmosphere]

[E58] = 'the menacing light of licking flames'.

The sight resembles the 'glory of Yahweh'.

The latter is the name of one intensity of brightness which surrounds
craft in operations[in darkness?].

The form [kabod] formerly dwelt only in the tabernacle and holy of
holies of Zion temple [see Ex40:34, Lev9:6, Num14:10, 16:19, IKings8:11,
IIChron7:1]

1:28 When I saw this I threw myself/ fell on my face, and heard a voice
speaking to me:

He hears a sound and/or 'the voice of one that spoke'. No speech marks
are given, maybe indicating the disembodied nature of the voice.

He doesn't identify the voice with the 'form' nor the 'form' with
'Yahweh' even though the voice itself says it is Yahweh.

The voice speaks Hebrew and wants to talk with Ezekiel, who appears too in awe to take this opportunity.
